I went to an ASD support group today and the lady there asked me about Frasers nursery - what they did for him and what they say about him, and TBH I had to say 'nothing' because they dont. When I pick him up they tell me what he has been doing, what he has eaten and if he has slept, but they dont say anything much else - except for going to great lengths to tell me how he has settled in!

I dont really know what to expect, and yet again I am worried. Fraser goes 2 sessions a week and after 5 months he has settled in.

His portage worker is going in next week to see him there, but should I push for the nursery to do something. The lady at the Support Group asked me if they had asked an Ed Psych to come in and see him?????

DS's private nursery was crapola, not experienced enough with SN. What I think they should do is work together with SALT (does he have SALT yet??) or if not SALT take advice from LEA Senco/SEN department about how best to help him progress with communication. Not sure what the local system is regards to ed psych but if your support group seems to think that it's feasible for nurseries to get the ed psych in, then I'ld go with that...

Thanks TC

What gets me most is that the nursery manager says she is a SENCO but she has not raised any issues about DS with me, I have approached her about his paed dx and his portage worker wanting to visit but she just seemed indifferent about it.

I am just counting down until he is 2.6 and I can move him across to our lovely playgroup! (it wasnt my idea for him to go and its been a nightmare from the start IMO)

so if there's an end in sight I guess you are tempted to just think sod it and tread water for a wee while, fair enough. a shame though they have been so unhelpful, she should be jumping at getting input from other professionals such as portage, and want to work in conjunction with portage.

TBH I think she is in it for the £££££ and not much else - she seems quite dismissive and seems to try and rush me out of the door.
