ds1s salt has told us about a ms nursery that has a special group for kids with severe speech problems. ds1 will start nursery in jan he is 2.8 now. he goes to a sn playgroup twice a week and normal preschool twice a week where he has a 1-2-1.
to get in the nursery you need a salt and cdc referral both of which he is under so hopefully he will get in. the leaflet says the lea help with transport does anyone know what that involves as if it is taxi i would rather take him my self( about 20 miles).
he wouls also mix with the ms kids but the sn group go and work on their own at times so he will be mixing with speaking kids. also he will attend 5 days a week is this normal for nursery? sorry no experience of this at all just wondering if anyone elses dc has been to these and if it helped?

Will it be easy to change back to another nursery if it does not work out ? It does sound like a good idea but you should have a plan b just in case. We gave up a MS nursery place for DS1 but the SN placement was not suitable in the end (in our opinion). Sorry to sound negative, your group could well be totally different to our experience but looking back, i wish we had planned for a rainy day etc. I did not use the taxi offered and I wonder if i would have realised what the problems were if i had not been there dropping off/collecting ?

thanks for that, that is def on my list to ask - what if. also i dont think he would go in taxi with stranger he has asd. tbh he fits in at the sn playgroup and ms he seems to prefer ms but i think he is not challenged and just drags his 1-2-1 around by the hand playibg with what he wants.

it was the other way round for us - the 1-1 at the SN placement had low expectations and did not expect DS1 to do very much but at MS, he learnt a lot. Still, there is no magic formula and is usually about finding the right person to work with your child and this could be either in ms or sn.
