I went to a talk by Wendy lawson last night, hosted by S.Glos NAS. Wow! This was amazing.
She was diagnosed as an adult with Aspergers syndrome, after the diagnosis of her son, and understanding her own 'diffability', as she calls it, has transformed her life.

Her focus was mainly how many of the difficulties of autism are due to monotropism (single attention), and difficulties with sensory intergration. She writes poetry and has a fantastic sense of humour.

I am looking at my own DS with fresh eyes this morning!

This is a link to her website

www.mugsy.org/wendy.

Please take a look.

She's a nice lady in real life. Done a couple of conferences with her.

I went to one of her conferences here in NI and she was excellent. She talks about things in such a humorous way that, I felt, gets her message across. Yeah, I thought diffability was good as well - and I also looked at my own DS with fresh eyes as well. I now do not ask him to go "and get changed" out of his uniform x

I met a social worker who knows Wendy yesterday, she said what a great person she is and how great her talks are.

Funny that she writes poetry as my DD1 (AS) is fascinated by poetry at the moment and loves writting her own poems and rhymes .

I would definitely recommend attending one of her talks - there is a list of 'tour dates' on her website.
