HIya, due to our paediatrician problems - generally that they are useless and we dont have a permanent one and due to their major error in deciding i was psychotic and telling that to anyone who asked! I have asked to be referred to a different one and they suggested bassetlaw, which im more than happy with as have family in worksop still and also know where to park etc from living near there etc. the only thing im wondering is what the paeds are like? is there a particular one were likely to get fro ds's autism and what are they like if you know? also he is on melatonin please tell me they will give it, i know some paeds are funny about it and dont want to make things hell here by swapping to a useless one!! any input from you would be fab as i think you go to bassetlaw dont you with yours? only paed i ever saw there was dr bodden when ben was a baby with a heart murmer but i believe she has left now??

hope youre all godd hun and yourdc (sorry cant remember which one) has a good birthday this weekend - tomorrow is it?

Jenny

Jenny i know i'm not misscutandstick but because of the situation with paeds in Newark we got refered over to Sutton in Ashfield - Dr Farrell (i think he is a development paed too). Have you seen him before? I'm not sure of his reputation but he was very good when we saw him; we were expecting a long drawn out process to get dd's dx, he gave us dx within 30 mins, no messing about and really knew his stuff. Gave us loads of great advice and i was really pleased with him. HTH xxx

oh wow!!! a thread all for meeeeeeeeee!!! thankyou!

How kind of you to remember, Yes its DS4's 4th birthday tomorrow - think we've decided on wheelgate park... wish us luck with that!!!

Hmm, at bassetlaw there are 3 Paeds, Dr Williams, Dr Mulenga, and Dr Hill (i think).

We have seen 2 of them.

Dr williams is nice, will listen to what you say, but HATES labels and will bend over backwards to make sure you dont get one, sitting firmly on the fence - a firm beleiver of the 'wait and see' brigade. However he is extremely well respected and if you want a test of ANY description (and you only have to ask!) you can guarentee that within a few days you will have your appt!!! Although he has a strange tendency to veer off at very strange tangents and reminice about his life - although its actually very interesting, perhaps he should write his memoirs!

Dr Mulenga, now hes a strange one, takes a while to get used to him, hes a bit like marmite - but i havent made my mind up yet. HE does however LOVE labels, but doesnt listen to a word you say. I stated that DS4 is a terrible sleeper, and takes ages to fall asleep, in the report he wrote "sleeps well" WT??? But he is quite thorough, and he is willing, hes a consultant Paed too. From the little i know about him, i think he would probably be the best person to see, with your DS.

Not had a chance to meet Dr Hill yet, maybe when Dr Williams retires next year? Have heard good reports about her - the stand-in HV thinks shes brill.

Im sorry i really dont know which one you are are likely to get - although from experience it usually only takes a couple of weeks to see any one of them.

thanks that great misscutandstick, we saw dr mulenga once actually but that was something different entirely - for a medical due to bens natural father beating him as a baby and i contacted social services and it was him who did the medical, id forgot his name until you mentioned it!! any idea if any of them are anti melatonin?? only worrying bout that too!!

meggymoosmum - we had dr derbyshire a year ago who was fab but we havent had a permanent one since she left and they refuse to give us one - very long story but i am sick of them in this area due to the recent problems, you probably saw the thrad about being accused of causing bns autism and bing psychotic by 2 different paeds, i keep asking for a permanent paed but they wont just said they would refer to bassetlaw if i wanted!?

im really sorry i dont know about the melatonin, so far ive been really lucky. both the Paeds i have seen, seem to be open-minded, one asked me to write officially to ask for something for DS5 so that he could approach the phamacy and try and get it free for me - so i assume hes willing to listen to mums regarding meds.

oh that sounds fantastic then, will try to get a referral then i think as kings mill is a joke!!
