Herts CC reputation isn't great I'm afraid! I've been told that they're incredibly stingey with statements as they want everything to be done by devolved funding. Having said that my personal experience so far has been ok... My son was DXed quickly, his mainstream school has had good guidance from the Autism Advisory people and we've had home visits too. I know a couple of people whose children have been in SN schools in Herts and I don't think they have any complaints either but I don't know how representative that experience is.

I'd try this link if I were you
www.hertsdirect.org/caresupport/childfam/specialneeds/learning/specialisteducation/

I t's not the most user-friendly site in the world but there's lots of information if you can just get to it!

Welwyn is a rather cute town btw (at least most of it is)

HCC not good for services, but the schools are pretty good.

Herts CC can be stingey with statements, it took me 3 years to get a statement for DD1. Social services can be a nightmare, we have not had a named social worker for 3 years, still under duty. Southfields school in hatfield (MLD) is a great school and the headmaster is a really great bloke (my Dd1 is in mainstream but we looked around Southfields recently when it came out she might be better off in MLD) Lakeside school is the SLD school for the area and I have only heard good things about it.
