just wanted to report that ds1 2.7 asd has been interacting with ds2 9 months. He has been playing with him trying to get him to crawl after him. He has cuddled him he will pick things up for him, he copies ds2 when he is eating by opening his mouth or encouraging ds2 to open his dont know which as he is non verbal. He has given him a kiss once when asked. And today after major meltdown going into tescos (so not in a good mood was bribed by crisps) ds2 was sucking ds1's crisp flavoured fingers. I was gobsmaked felt like shouting out loud. 1 month ago he would have nothing to do with him and would scream if ds2 was near him. He still does not like him being near him at times but I cant believe the difference.

That's really lovely and encouraging- DS is 4 with ASd and we are just about to have a baby and Im worrying how he will react.

Chocolatebunnyrabbit · 31/03/2009 15:51

hungryhippo21 that is just too sweet for words. Bless him.

Staryeyed, I was petrified about having my baby last year as my son was only just dx with ASD when I became pregnant. It isn't going to be as bad as you think

must say ladies with the 2 of them it has been hard but since ds2 has started crawling ds1 has started taking a real interest and ds2 seems to be helping him interact more. ds2 is used to ds1 tantrums and him being heavy handed. i know they say dogs benefit kids with asd but at the moment i recommend a baby .
