Just got back from a night in hospital after DS suddenly started having absence type seizures He has started having grand mals in his sleep again (3 in early hours of Sunday) and then he started zoning out every time he sat down to do something where he had to concentrate. He was having about 40 a day Anyway, spent night on ward and they decided to try midazolam to bring him out which thankfully it did. We have a scheduled appt with consultant neuro in Thursday so let's hope he has some ideas.

Very that he is having day time events now and hope that an increase in meds will help.

sounds like he's coming down with something or has maybe outgrown his dose??? Ds does exactly the same when ill or when meds need increasing. (fairly regularly!!) Hope hes ok and everything settles down soon.

How are things going fatzak? We have spoken before as my DS also has night time seizures. Hope you DS is ok after what sounds like a horrendous few days.

Can I ask what the zoning out is like? My DS keeps falling asleep - can do this standing up - in school. We are waiting for a neurologist appointment in 2 weeks to discuss if it is related to his epilepsy

Hi thanks for all your replies. I agree that his meds prob need adjusting and also he has had a cold but it's never really come into a fever or full blown illness. That's interesting FioFio, wonder if that has what has happened. They have upped his Keppra to 750 both morning and night so we'll have to see how it goes.

Widemouth - it's ever so odd with his absences. He is fine when he is on the go, but as soon as he stops to eat, read, colour in etc he just looks like he is going to drop asleep and just literally stops mid sentence or whatever. He seems a bit better today but the last couple of days have been a nightmare with him having probably 50 a day.

Last night was horrible. We had him on a mattress in our room to keep an eye on him. He had a grand mal about 2.00am for 5 mins then he couldn't get back to sleep as he was coughing and spluttering, then as he fell asleep he had another, then another at 5.30 in which he got stuck for ages eg he stopped jerking but his eyes were fixed and he just didn't come round properly. He then screamed hysterically for 40 minutes DH has got a bee in his bonnet that it's the midazolam that sent him so hysterical but he had that at lunch time so I'm not convinced.

Role on Thursday for our appt with the neuro consultant. Just hope to goodness he changes his meds as we can't carry on like this He will won't he?????!!!

I think meds will have to change wont they (?). You haven't got seizure control by any stretch of the imagination. Let us know how you get on Thursday.
