I tried to think of a case where a DS man or woman has had child/ren, but couldn't - surely this must have happened; does anybody know if it has?

I know of several women with Downs who became pg. I used to work for an org working with parents with disabilites. Unfortunately the way we heard about the women was usually from some freaked out social worker phoning us in a panic.

It was always seen as an entirely negative thing.

It used to be widely believed that men with DS were infertile. I am not sure what the thinking is now but I do remember there was quite a lot of discussion about it a few years back. It was thought that is was not always the DS that caused infertility but couldve had quite a lot to do with the poor nutrition in the institutions that the majority of people with DS lived in.

I tend you use the term man with DS or woman with CP (if I need to include the disabilty) because I hate to hear 'the Downs baby' 'or the Autistic boy'. My DD was once refered to as the Luekemic (only once though, I made bloody sure of it). So I cant help but have the same reaction when I hear Downs man etc.
