Parents telling me ds1 got out of school and was wandering yesterday; school saying it couldn't have happened

Just to put it in context, ds1 is nine, in MS with support by statement, has a dx of AS /HFA and gets HR care and LR mobility as he doesn't go anywhere unsupervised as he thinks he is immune to danger, has been known to push his brother (or try to) under a car and is aggressive with no sense of direction.

Last night ds1 was telling me X was out of school on a very busy main road alone at lunchtime, and X was suspended. Today X's mum has told me it was the pair of them and in fact they weren't seen (that woul equate with ds1's way oftryuing towork out what a punishment would be before owning up).

Head tells me not in any way possible as he watches the gates. He's great and I don't want to argue with him (DS1 came home with bite marks on his face last night and it was dealt with brilliantly) but I am still shaking.

Any ideas? Obv will talk to hiom but- he's so at risk.

that doesn't sound very satisfactory, relying on him being alert enough to spot kids going out - or is he saying he saw X come out but not your DS? I would push for gates to be locked for as much of the day as possible.

Unless the Head stares unblinkingly at those gates for the whole of lunchtime, stopping neither to look at a piece of paper nor have a conversation, I find it very unlikely that he was watching the gates at all times. A determined child can escape in a couple of seconds.

Are there security cameras that would give a clue? Definitely needs more investigation. Thank goodness he's ok - I bet you are really shaken up. I would be.

No cameras that I am aware of.

This whole 'X escaped and went down the main road- will he be experlled' is totally typical for DS1 to use as amethod of beinging a topic to discussion, we were fixated on the bite and should have spotted the hint.

The Secretary did seem shaken and the Head was a bit but whilst the gates are locked theya re regualrly used and parents will leave them open

Apaprently ds1 was pulled by Head and interviewed and it was found ds1 was not out but X was (ds1's report, he was in tears though so likely).

This si the second time I have been reassured something didn't happen then boys have been pulled and interviewed.

I am going to ask about this and the Hitler thing at the meeting for his statement review next week.
