Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

I'm hesitant to post on here but I think my DS 4 is deaf

Title says it all. His behaviour recently has been atrocious, but I put it down to a new baby and his father being away a lot. Today it just clicked that he wasn't being defiant, he just couldn't hear what I was asking him to do. I have made an appointment at the doctor's for Monday. I feel really guilty for not noticing this beforeas I have been quite hard on him for what I perceived was his defiance.
Should I mention this to his pre-school before I have a definite diagnosis? Just really sad and DH is away so don't have any one to talk to about this.

it sounds possible, toolly. and don't feel bad about not noticing before. if he does have hearing problems, it may be a conductive loss, which varies depending on how "bunged up" he is/whether he has a cold, etc, etc. so much easier to miss. he may not have noticed either, as onset may have been gradual or it just sounds "normal" to him.

i'd pass on your concerns to preschool and ask whether they'd had any similar concerns. this will give the audiologist more information to go on just in case he is tested on a "good day".

I had a meeting with his keyworker on Monday and she didn't mention to me a possible issue with his hearing. They just said he was a sweet little boy with an orginal way of thinking who was often in his own world! I could kick myself!

Don't feel hard on yourself. When they are little,it is really really hard to sift out issues like these from normal developmental issues and common or garden naughtiness.
(I'm a SALT by the way.)

You have noticed something is amiss and you are donig something about it, which is good.
