SuperNanny is Just What The Doctor Ordered! (Ha!Ha!Ha!)

The Paed said today that I should watch SUPERNANNY to get tips on 'general parenting' skills ...to help me with my Autistic/ADHD sons.

So........i am even less confident in my coping as she has obviously based this on my skills when we've all been to see her at clinic (and they have broken her equiptment etc)

And then as far as leigh goes.,..she reported that his teacher reckons he is hard to manage at times when he has completed all the work set- and gets bored....sometimes going off into a daydream that he is hard to get out off....apparently I can't expect 'any different' as 'It's always difficult For the teacher when a child is bright and she has the whole class to consider!!!!

Well....pardon me for caring about my son

Can I twist this at the fothcoming IEP meeting to say that 'THe SCHOOL IS NOT MEETING HIS NEEDS"...and ask them to start statementing process??? (obviously.....there is more he struggles with that i need to point out!!!)

I don't even think it needs twisting Mrs F. They are definitely not meeting your son's needs.

My ds is in Y1 and is 'miles ahead' of his peers. His teachers have to give him different work every day to meet his demands but they have no qualms about doing it - it's what the job is and that's what they have to do. They've even tried giving him completely different homework. If my ds's teachers can do it, so can yours.

And as for Supernanny ... words fail me.

Shame there isn't a SuperPaed show that you paed could watch. I'm sorry but that's a ridiculous thing to say. Supernanny programmes deal with NT children who are horrors because of crap parenting, I am sure thge producers would run a mile if faced with children with SN and theire particular behaviourl difficulties. Although it might be worth writing to them and seeing whether they would take you on, sounds an interesting programme. Think your other son does need statementing if the school isn't meeting his needs and that's what the teacher has told you, his needs are sublimated in her need to get on with the rest of the calss

Blimey, Mrs F, is that the answer?! How patronising and hurtful. If he is bored and going off into a 'daydream' they need to do something about that. His needs are definitely not being met.
Think we should get Super Nanny round to our houses and see what she comes up with!

Grrrr! When will people realise that although techniques for children with ASD will usually work well for NT children , it doesn't necessarily work the other way around!

I've heard the Supernanny comments before and tbh it made my blood boil. If I hadn't been busy dealing with ds1's meltdown I think I would have throttled the culprit (my mother).

Surely the school could arrange for extra or more challenging work for Leigh if he finishes early??

take that idea to it's obvious conclusion - why bother having paed appointments at all if all anyone needs is to watch supernanny!!????
