My son had a nose bleed yesterday, now he is fascinated with blood and wants to draw blood deliberately!!!

Not unusual to get a nosebleed, I know that, but unlike when my dc1 used to get nosebleeds, and she used to panic, my son just rubbed the blood together with his hands really calmly.

This morning his hand was cut and I couldn't figure out why. Later I caught him TRYING cut himself deliberately with a scissors. I had to wrestle it from him, he wanted to finish the job he had in mind; to cut himself and draw blood.

He has a severe speech disorder and is on the AS (mildly imo, awaiting reports) so I am surmising here.

I wonder how long it will take him to forget about blood. What a lunatic. I felt quite alarmed this morning. All scissors and knives are out of his reach now, but I can tell he hasn't forgotten about fascinating blood quite yet.

i thought id bump your thread for you in case someone has some advise for you as you know im not in any situation to offer you any but i sympathize with you its tough when you don't understand the behavior i guess distraction is the only way

and of course hiding all the knives how old is your ds? is he old enough and understand enough to explain dangers of knives etc? x

Hi, I just saw this thread, and wondered if maybe the fascination is not with blood itself, but it maybe that he likes to rub it into his hands iyswim. He may like to play with finger paints and it may be a good distraction. Sorry if not very helpful, it is the only thing I can think of, because my 3 year old likes to rub finger paint all over his hands and becomes really lost in it.
The cutting himself, well he probably doesn't feel the pain so it is not as traumatic for him, and he doesn't understand how other people react to cuts and so is not so panicky about it. My 3 year old always laughs if he falls down and if other fall down, no matter how much they hurt themselves. He often throws himself off things because he thinks it is hilarious
I sympathise it is a constant worry isn't it.
