Morning , took my son for a visit to clinic and for the first time he had his blood pressure taken . he is 13 and had Downs syndrome. The blood pressure reading was 111/87. I thought this was a little high and so did the lady we saw, she said i shouldnt be too worried and just to get get it re -read at the next routine doctors appointment. Has anyone been in this situation , should i get it checked now and what would cause high blood pressure in a child. He isnt over weight and gets regular exercise.

Could it just have been anxiety from the appointment.

I dont think so he wasnt at all bothered by going and he liked having it checked, sat very still when the cuff got tighter and even smiled at her . Its normally the top reading thta goes up(i think) if you are worried or excited. Thanks for replying though.

here is a table.

For children, whether a blood pressure reading is high or not depends on their height.

DD1 (3.2) has a BP>90th centile, but her consultant said that it has to be extremely high before they treat it in children.

Thanks lou , not sure if i understand it ,but if i use him height and his 50th centile , his blood pressure is higher than on the chart . might just get it checked out by my doctor.
