dd has dyspraxia so has co-ordination issues,we bought a wii with a wii fit board and she's been enjoying the wii fit package-it has quite a few balance games which are easy to follow, only had it since christmas so unsure what the results are as of yet,but any practise has to be better than none.

Just bought a Wii for ds (HFA) for exactly the same reasons. He is not getting it till his birthday though so will have to see how effective it is.

The family trainer looks good. You get a mat and they sit on it, its interactive like the board. I havent tried it but may be worth looking at.

My ds (4.5) (asd,as) likes to watch rather than participate. But I was very shocked when he started playing the golf on wii sports (he actually looks like he has a talent, keeps getting birdies).

We also have wii celebrity sports, which is also very good and the wii fit.

I think for sn kids the wii is a wonderful invention and the makers should be proud it has another use. (They probably never thought it at the time)

The only concern is the fixation with it. This is his new obsession. However would rather have this than other obsessions.

My DS2 has dyspraxia, he can't do any of the wii sports games but is ok with the Wii Fit board. We also have family trainer (the mat) which is brilliant for him.

Oh this is a timely thread for me, as we're thinking of getting a Wii. DS1 has dyspraxic traits and DS2 is autistic and also has severe motor-planning/dyspraxic issues. Glad to hear that it's having positive effects (I can't wait )

What's the difference between the family trainer and the Fit board?

MetalMummy · 05/02/2009 22:50

The wii fit board is really good for balance. There are games on it like ski jumping, hula hoops and jogging. There is also a fitness trainer on it where you do stretching exercises, step aerobics and yoga etc. The kids only do the games, I do the fitness trainer. DS2s physio really rates the wii fit because it emphasizes balance so much.
The Family trainer looks like a dance mat. It is easier for DS2 to use than the wii fit but he is only 5. It is really good fun and there are more games on it than the wii fit. For family fun I prefer the Family Trainer, for exercise the wii fit is better. HTH

Thanks MM - unfortunately it sounds like we might need both! DS1 needs the balance work but it will be too hard for DS2 - but sounds like he might be able to manage the Family Trainer.
