AFAIK the best way is to remove certain foods from the diet for 1 - 4 weeks and observe. Children can test as not allergic to something that still may cause behavioral or gut issues.

hiya,

We did blood but there are different methods. I think the most popular one is Elisa pin prick testing (I think you can get a test from www. intolerance 2 food.com without the spaces for about 150 quid) and like you say Jabber we found that one food that rated low (1+ only) caused ds loads of problems and we didn't realise. We removed the highest rated allergens first and then worked down to the least. The only thing we really had a problem removing (cos he ate so many) was egg white. We were doing SCDiet and also came up for nuts so now we're back on meat, veg, fruit and potatoes only)
Some of the higher rating allergens were masking the problems caused by the lower rating. (err, does that make any sense -- rambling now)

i just saw a post on Autism Biomedical Europe yahoo forum about this very thing! spooky eh?
anyway, one lady reports she used a test from www. fooddetective.com (nospaces) and it cost 36quid. Much cheaper!

Ugh was hoping there might be some superfabbo alternative to the elimination diet palaver I hadn't heard of[grin.] Just can't face the thought. Will investigate that £36 one though.

That does sound interesting. Can someone from the US join the yahoo forum?

Have just ordered a Food detective kit and a bottle of Oxypowder (cos I fancy a go on that myself!) so will report back next week sometime.
