just had a voicemail from some snotty woman from education welfare.

apparantly she wants an apointment for me to come into the office to discuss Ds' attendance.

obviously i rang straight back to speak to her.

"im very concerned about DS attendance"

me "really? why?"
twat - "well it fall's below the 90% we expect"

Me- "and have you spoken to tehs chool about the possible reasons for this"
twatt- "no"
me "so do you have any idea as to why"
twatt - "no. isd there an issue i should be aware of? "

me - "i don't know. do you think the fact that Ds has ASD and gets excluded frequently and on days when he is not very happy we keep him hoe rather than send him in just so that he can hurt someone and get excluded would be something you shoudl know about prior to phoniong me up?"

twat "well i will have to confirm that with ther school"

Me - "errrm. do you disbelieve me then?"

twat - "no but i have to make sure that the schoola re aware that your ds has ASD"

me - "well as they have been teaching him for the past 3 years i think they may have guessed"

so anyway, i still have to go in for this bloody meeting, just to tell her in person what i have told her on the phone. its bloody ridiculous. she had no idea that Ds was even on the SEN register. all she had was his name and his attendance %.

would it really hurt for them to actually ask the school first?

Oh fgs!

Do they not commnicate at all?

They all seem to work interdependently don't they? DS1 has an asd team now and a dyslexia team and can they ever talk to each other.....

nope.

We're still waiting to see what school DS3 will be at in 3 weeks! Theyc an't even manage tot ell su that much- apaprently we might be told on a Friday for a move on a Monday.

CandleQueen · 02/02/2009 12:48

That's ridiculous!
Here the EWO's won't contact a parent like that unless the school has asked the EWO to step in.
It's disgusting that she is just phoning up with only a name and percentage as reference.

PeachyBAHonsPRSCertOnRequest · 02/02/2009 12:51

We got a snoty letter when we got the dysexcia lady from EWO stating that dys lady would be withdrawn if dsq2's attendance not above 80%.

AS it ahs been at 100% for past two yrars, and just 2 dayas off (both due to him being bullied) this year- WTF?

Mamazon · 02/02/2009 14:19

It just really annoys me that they haven't even bothered checking with school first.
how on earth can she be of any use in solving any possible problems that could cause a child to be missing school iof she has no idea of what the issues may be?

its pathetic.

am waiting for the EWO to contact us about DS1, his attentance is very poor this term as he has had lots of appointments.. plus been ill. Will report back lol

TotalChaos · 02/02/2009 16:43

oh yes DS was late in 5 times because of Group SALT, bet that counts as an absence too.

amber32002 · 02/02/2009 16:52

What on earth are the school doing? If we send the EWO round from my school, it's only after extensive consultation and information. If she doesn't even know there's a SEN or the history, words fail.

SparklyGothKat · 02/02/2009 16:52

well DS1 had a operation last may at great ormond street and has had many follow up appointments, plus appointments at St Thomas' for his bowels, so loads of days off.. oh well, I don't care..

SparklyGothKat · 02/02/2009 16:53

we have been told that the school will be discussing Dd2's attentance as she has had 5 days off last term, she had that nasty vomiting bug
