OK, so I don't need advice but I have to post this here because nobody else would understand why I'm getting so stressed about DD having her first party invitation from school. In France it's normal to dump your kids and run (yes, even 4-year-olds!) and I CAN'T leave her all on her own at an all-French party. Of course, she's really excited about going...
I think I'll have to make up some excuse about not wanting to leave her because her French isn't good. Not really ready to start a big discussion with other parents on the fact she has SN!

Can you say it is her first party and she would like you to stay with her?

Hi Brioche

I understand this totally, ds 4 suspected Aspergers and Dyspraxia. Luckily Ive been poorly and hubby has been taking ds to parties. He is so much better at difusing situations with him. Ds goes in total meltdown when food is served etc.

I don't really have any advice, other than could you maybe have a word with the parent and ask if you can help out?

I'd go for the "not good at french" approach. Does the parent who invited her at least know she has SN? If not, might be worth mentioning.

Hope she enjoys it!

How lovely for DD - glad she is excited!
I think your 'French' excuse is a completely plausible one, I wouldn't question it at all. And I expect the other Mum may be secretly glad if you hang about too, if all other Mums are leaving. Normal or not, I'd be glad of en extra pair of hands (and eyes!)

All my three sons were invited to a birthday party today, but I took the cowards way out and left ds2 with my MIL and took the other two . I'm such a bad parent, but he did have a great time with his nana.
