I applied for a grant for a Large MPV, They have awarded us £1726 to put towards a Seat Alambra (sp) I phoned the garage today and asked him to measure the boot and its the same size as the Zafira when all 7 seats are up.... I applied for a grant to get a bigger car so we can get the wheelchair and the buggy in together.. What to do I do now??

and seeing that we have to pay £200 towards it as well, then we might as well just get another zafira as the advance payment is less than £200... Why did they do that, I put that we needed a large boot and at least 6 seats, so why??

So is the grant specifically for an Alambra? Could you look at the other mobility vehicles available and then write to the people who gave you a grant requesting that they apply it to vehicle x instead?

SparklyGothKat · 09/01/2009 22:13

The problem is this is the cheapest large MPV so they have applied it to that one. If we want anything bigger we have to find the rest and we don't have £2000 sitting around

If you cancel this grant request are you able to look at something a bit bigger & apply for more?

SparklyGothKat · 09/01/2009 22:54

not sure how it works tbh. I am not sure if this is it. they work out what size car we need, and give us the money towards the advance payment. I told them in the form that we need a large boot, with at least 6 seats. The boot isn't big enough

I am surprised!! We asked for a Ssangyong Rodius, they called us once to ask if we had looked at the Ford Galaxy, (we had-it was too small) and I explained that we needed 6 seats and space for a wheelchair and double pram. We got a grant (£6k!!) no problem. There was never any suggestion of THEM deciding which car we could have???? Have you looked at the Rodius? It has 5 rear seats and the biggest boot space available with all the seats in. (You dont have to loose seats to have a big boot.) Good luck with it.

SparklyGothKat · 14/01/2009 00:02

that is the one we want MM, I actually put it on the form, told them that the galaxy was too small and yet they came back with a car the same size as the galazy.. they are re-assesing it though

We also specified the separate seats. Ds1 also has behavioural issues-grabs, pulls etc therefore cant realistically sit next to anyone. Dont know if that would help? Also easy access from the front to the back could be something to mention, esp if your ds has epilepsy or other medical needs. (the middle bit comes out if nec). Can you ring up and speak to the assessor? I dont know what wed do without the Rodius!! It tok a bit of getting used to but its just like home now! Full of nappies, fruitshoot bottles and half eatend happy meals! At least 2 coats each, bag of beach stuff, 2 buggies and a wheelchair!

SparklyGothKat · 14/01/2009 00:13

does it have sliding doors? I asked for those as its easier for Ds1 to get out the car.

OP posts:
monstermansmum · 14/01/2009 01:07

No. If it had sliding do0rs it would (almost) be the perfect 'disability' car!!! I am a bit concerned actually-have just looked on the motability website and they dont appear to list Ssangyong anymore!! Hope they still do it when we are due to renew (early 2011!) If not it would have to be a chrysler and they wont fund it then as we wont have 2 babies- just too many kids!! They will say that as the car belongs to Ds1 anyway it only has to be suitable for him. maybe why they didnt offer it to you?? (sliding doors!)

SparklyGothKat · 14/01/2009 11:41

it was on the site last week, dep. at £3,600. But its not there now..

I'd ring if it was me!! I'm not very patient and I will be soooo disapointed if they have stopped doing it. Cant think why they would because it really is a fantastic car for us. At least the deposit is lower now.
