Who has resigned themselves to never have another baby after Sn's child? And who took the brave step to go ahead?

Already have a dd,7 healthy, and my nearly 2 yr old ds who has a genetic disorder which involves severe epilepsy, hypotonia, hypermobility, brain damage and global development delay....me and my partner's chromosomes came bk ok,my ds1's chromosome 6 attached itself to chromosome 12 during conception resuling in all his probs , still waiting to see geneticist

I have also had 3 miscarriages, my dd is from a prev relationship, although my partner is her "dad", my 3 mc's and my ds1 are to my partner of 6 years.

But in the future I would like to think I will have more healthy children....

It's a hard decision, sorry to hear about your depression, that and your son's health makes it very tough. There are pros and cons, it'll almost be easier if we just had an accident and then the decision is taken away from us.

Yeah I knw wat you mean wen you say "having an accident would take decision away from us"

Who knows? "Accidents" do happen

Hi all,

Have often read these pages but here's my first post. I have 2 children DS1, 6 next week and ASD, DS2 is 4 and NT. DH and I have thought about no.3 but are like many of you concerned about the implications. Where I find it difficult to cope is witnessing the distress DS1 goes through trying to make sense of and survive school - it is heartbreaking. Does anyone know what the chances of having a child with ASD are if you already have one? Is it increased? Also, pagwatch, in your post on 8th Jan you mentioned taking precautions to avoid autism - what kind of measures can be taken? I had no idea there were any. Many thanks. xxx

Anna001, I've just seen your post with so many questions. I'm afraid I can't answer them but I'm bumping for you!!

Just to make you feel a little better, my DS was diagnosed with CP at 19 months (in Feb 2008) after a premature birth at 31 weeks complicated by preexisting CP. By May 2008 we were talking about having another LO and I'm 32 weeks today with DS2. DS1 can't walk or talk yet but is very excited about his new brother.

A friend also had similar probs to those you describe, 1 NT DS to a previous partner then 6mcs with the next. They now have 2 gorgeous NT sons, so it can happen.
