What car do you have and would you recommend it? I currently have a Zafira and TBH its a bit small with 6 of us, 2 disabled kids, one baby and DD2, we have a wheelchair and a buggy.

Thanks

we have a zafira but have been looking at the citroen grand picasso for when we change! Good luck

WeWishyouaMitchellChristmas · 18/12/2008 09:30

We have a VW touran (7 seats) but need the boot for wheelchairs/buggies etc. We are a family of 5 so would be interested to hear peoples suggestions aswell as we can get a new car in May. We only need the extra seats if we take extra people with us.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 18/12/2008 11:03

We have the scenic grande which is fine for 5 of us and no wheelchairs, but I think you would need something bigger (shame because the motabiity up front payments leap up for anything bigger)

MadLyCarrolingChristmasMouse · 18/12/2008 14:06

Mitchell is Ford S Max something for you? seven seats but two are in the boot and can be folded out of the way.

sparkly, blimey, best thing I can suggest is a van .wheelchairs and buggies take so much space and in most cars it is either boot space or seats.

WeWishyouaMitchellChristmas · 18/12/2008 14:16

Thanks Will have a look, I know the cars on motability for under £1000 deposit for 7 seaters are Citroen C4, Toyota verso, Mazda 5, Fiat Doblo.
I like the idea of the Mazda as it has a sliding door, the Citroen is good as you can get from the drivers/passengers seat into the middle row as the gears aren't between the seats (iykwim)

All the big MPV jump up in price. But those MPVs listed above might have a bigger boot space with one seat being used????

glitteryb6 · 18/12/2008 21:08

Mitchell, of those you mentioned the Citroen, which we have, has the biggest boot space, also the Mazda and Zafira middle seat is only really like a half seat whereas the citroen has 3 full size seats in the second row so can take 3 car seats etc

MetalMummy · 18/12/2008 22:22

We have the Kia Sedona, we can fit a buggy and an adult wheeelchair in the boot (but only just). It has sliding rear doors which makes getting in and out much easier and it's huge inside, if you take the seats out you can fit a single bed in it. Ours is a few years old so the seat configuration is 2 in the middle and 3 in the back, I think they changed that last year and newer models have 3 in the middle and 2 in the back. We love it and our next car will be another Sedona.

WeWishyouaMitchellChristmas · 19/12/2008 09:04

Glitteryb6 Do you have the new 7 seater citroen? How much space is in the boot with the seats up?

Our VW touran takes 3 car seats in the middle row and the boot is quite big when not using the seats.

Sorry Sparkly for asking questions on your thread

glitteryb6 · 19/12/2008 10:22

yes its the 7str we have, had it for about 18months now.

its one of the biggest boots with the seats down but with the seats up there is really only room for a few bags behind the seats.

you could get several bags from a small shopping trip in easily and there is some underfloor storage for odds and ends both in the boot and in the second row, i think one of the motoring mags said you could get a full size set of golf clubs in but i suspect thats not your thing, lol!

to be fair the biggest one with the seats up is the Chrysler Grand Voyager but thats ridiculously expensive, we're probably going to look at a WAV Kia Sedona next time, and metal mummy is right the ordinary Kia does have 3 seats in the middle and two in the back now, so that might be another one for you to consider but the deposit is much bigger on the Kia than on the Citroen.

WeWishyouaMitchellChristmas · 19/12/2008 12:57

Thanks glittery, DD is 8 now and we are hoping to get away with another non WAV this time, but I think the next one will have to be a WAV. I was also looking at a 4x4 but the deposit is big. (Before anyone comments we live in the highlands and get snow in winter) It might be the last time I can get one.
Need to decide by March what we want to do in time to order a new one, but last time Motability installed a person and wheelchair hoist so will be wanting the person hoist again in our new car.

glitteryb6 · 19/12/2008 20:08

ah im in glasgow so not quite so bad weather as you but nowhere near as good as our friends in the south

i would love to get another citroen but realistically i dont think i can manage another 3 years without one, but unless i start saving i'll need to get one of the smaller no deposit ones

SparklyGothKat · 19/12/2008 20:10

not a problem mitchell, we are thinking about the multipla now

We have a Ssangyong Rodius-biggest car you can get without getting a van. 5 full seats in the back, ample leg room and a huge boot (wheelchair plus 2 buggies and a double pram as well!) " pilot seats swivel and rear 3 seater bench seat can be remved completely if you need the space (moving house/new furniture etc). Definitely worth having a look at, we looked at VW transporter but the Rodius actually had more usable room and was easier to get ds1 in and out of. Quit a large dep (6k in feb 2007 but we got a motorbility grant)

PeachyBidsYouNadoligLlawen · 21/12/2008 21:21

Don't touch the space agon derivatives (can't remember name now)

don't get me wrong adore ours but cn barely get the tniest buggy in there (graco mojo)-no good for chasir users

SparklyGothKat · 22/12/2008 00:06

I ahve the form for a motability Grant, ahve been told that we will have to pay £200 but the rest will be covered by the grant. And they will work out what they will cover.

OMG MMM, that car is IDEAL!!!!!!!! I have just googled it and it looks like what I have been looking for!! have found the nearest garage is about 30 miles but we are going to look at it in the new year!! The dep. is £3k now, but prices change in jan.

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 22/12/2008 00:25

can I ask if you could take a pic of your boot with all your stuff in it MMM please? Just trying to work out just how big it is,

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 22/12/2008 00:43

not to worry found a pic of the boot space, its huge!!! Will phone motability grants and see if they think we will be allowed to go for that. The lady I spoke to said we had to go for a larger MPV and said about Galaxys etc. So hopefully we will be able to get that.

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 22/12/2008 00:50

boot I can't believe a car has that size boot!! I was thinking about the transporter too, but the dep. are huge. May I ask how many kids you have MMM, just so I can work out if we will be able to get the grant for one.
