she's still puking up anything going in either via mouth or tube. So she can't come home yet. Not poo-ed since wednesday either. I'm guessing her gut hasn't woekn up. Saw a doc who looked about 12 who knew diddly.
Little bit red round the tube hole but they said thats normal. If its redder tomorrow I will insist on anti-b's but wondering whether to bathe area with water and essential oil (lavender, dd can't have tea-tree) or whether the oil would go into her tummy?
She also jumps when water goes into the tube. She must feel it enter her tummy.

MatNanPlusTINSEL · 07/12/2008 18:38

Hope she is feeling better tomorrow.

How is your cough?

needmorecoffee · 07/12/2008 18:43

cough is bloody awful. OK for about an hour thena monstrous spasm that has me redfaced and tears coming out and poeple edging away like I have the plague! Cold has finished but I always get the hacking cough bit for weeks.
But if any child in that hozzie gets a cough they will all blame me!

dd is ona ward with 4 and 6 bed bays so I've been round. Its so sad. There's 2 babies that no-one ever visits. A lovely couple from Brum who's 11 day old has a twisted bowel. They've had to leave their other 2 kids at home and will be down in bristol for weeks. No beds in Brum or anywhere nearer. Wondering what I can do to help. They don't have a car either. If I had time I'd offer to drive the dad or mum to their home and fetch stuff and get washing done. thought about lending my car but its motability and there'd be insurance issues.

Hopefully we'll get taught about the tube tomorrow as no-one has been to see us at all. Cos its the weekend.

dsrplus8 · 07/12/2008 20:09

hi nmc , hope you get your dd home soon. how lovely are you for thinking about the couple with the baby!hope the cough disapears x

TotalChaos · 07/12/2008 20:09

last week a woman on the train a few feet away put her scarf over her mouth and face (whilst proceeding to recommend ginger to cure my cough!!)

hope DD is better soon and all the right things come out (or don't come out!) where they should so she can come out the hozzie. fraid I have no idea about care round the site.

LottieDugalo · 07/12/2008 22:16

NMC did your dd not have iv abs post op? Hope she feels better and stops being sick soon. It breaks my heart to see the LOs who are left on their own, so sad.

Jollyjoseyjinglebells · 07/12/2008 23:01

NMC you need a hot toddy(whiskey, lemon, honey, mixd spice, and hot water,) hot bath or shower off to bed and sweat it out. Works everytime. Bet you get lots of looks for howking though. Lovely of you to think of these people, your so strong. Hope things get better tomorrow.

Lottie how are things now for you that you are home are you finding it easy?

needmorecoffee · 08/12/2008 07:52

no she didn't Lottie. Just one dose after the op. If its redder today I will insist on ab's because in cases like this its better to be safe than sorry.
How is your dd's tube site Lottie? Thanks the book and the mags btw.
Today we're getting taught how to manage the tube and put things in it.

LottieDugalo · 08/12/2008 08:00

Much easier than I thought, she's eating more solids than before already! Dd doesn't run or crawl around so I guess that makes things simpler, despite the complications I have no regrets

needmorecoffee · 08/12/2008 17:51

well, she's still in hospital. We discovered this morning that for the last 3 days they have been giving her double the dose of keppra. I'd said 300 mg twice daily so total of 600 and they've been giving her 600 twice daily. When I got in this morning she was confused and unresponsive and it took hours of nagging saying 'this isn't right' (they assume any quad CP is unresponsive etc etc) before the error was discovered FFS

TotalChaos · 08/12/2008 17:53

oh shit I cannot believe they got the meds dosage wrong again, after what happened last year.

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 08/12/2008 17:54

oh ffs stupid peoplr

needmorecoffee · 08/12/2008 17:58

they even have the correct dosage in her file. The doctor had the file to 'prove' that her dosage wasn't written down so it wasn't the hospital's fault. In the front was a letter from her paed stating the correct doses. I pointed to it straight away. oh, she said.

LottieDugalo · 08/12/2008 18:42

Oh goodness me, that's awful, that's the fourth case I've heard of there, ridiculous. Dds tube site looks pretty good, her tiny little tummy is a mess, well you saw it can't turn it 'cos it's stitched to the skin, but it looks ok. How is the sickness? Could that be the keppra? Now she has the flaming tube she's decided to drink 600mls today already! Not sure anything would fit down the tube.

dsrplus8 · 09/12/2008 09:33

nmc, how is your wee girl today? cant believe the docs got her meds wrong!!.whats wrong with these people ?cant they read notes, its a disgrace. anyway just wanted to post to show support because you have been through the mill with this op.i hope you get dd home soon, x

bullet123 · 09/12/2008 09:44

Those are some serious errors by the hospital . First for not giving your dd the correct dosage and secondly for not being aware that her not being responsive was a cause for concern.
I hope she's able to come home soon.

magso · 09/12/2008 10:16

Just popping in to hope dd is doing well now error discovered!
Hugs to you all!

Mitchell81 · 09/12/2008 10:18

Hope DD is getting better and at the hospital getting dosage wrong. When do you think you will get out?

needmorecoffee · 09/12/2008 17:18

should be out tomorrow morn if they don't try and kill her this evening.

feelingbitfestive · 09/12/2008 17:20

you home yet? hope all is well xx

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 09/12/2008 17:24

I bet you will be glad to get her hown safe and sound.

WeWishyouaMitchellChristmas · 09/12/2008 18:24

Does DH say with her overnight? Fingers crossed you get home tomorrow.

Mercy · 09/12/2008 18:31

I somehow missed this.

Hope all is well

needmorecoffee · 09/12/2008 18:52

yeah, dh is with her. Like we'd leave her alone in 'overdose central'

Jollyjoseyjinglebells · 09/12/2008 19:32

OMG!! that is awful!! I beggers belief how some of these folk qualify now!

When DD was in a few weeks ago they asked me to show them how to medicate her as they nurse had never seen an NGT before

Really hope you get home tomorrow, you must fell like secutity standing gard over your DD to make sure they dont do anything else.
