dont laugh but ds 6y still falls out of bed

he as aspergers and hes my 3rd child out of 4 and hes the only one who as no idea when hes falling out or falls out so goes with a thud! iv put his bed guard back on ,one day hes going to hurt him self.

could it be the aspergers?

Ds (9) has asd and walks into lamp posts, doors, and bumps into other people. I do not know if it his poor spacial awareness, or his sensory difficulties! He has a bed (Ikea) with a lip on it, but falls out in ordinary beds!

why would anyone laugh Trace2?

I used to do this a lot as a child and a teenager (I'm NT). i used to have cushions and bean bags by the side of my bed (other side against the wall) piled up a bit so I would land on them and gently-ish roll on to the floor. I grew out of it by my late teens. I also have problems with spacial awareness (lamp posts a problem, but leople OK)- door frames are a particular problem for some reason. Can't understand why as they never move. Unlike doors which I have no problem with. .
Anyway, my point is it could well be the Aspergers, but it might not be too. Not much help, is it?

Ah yes TC. Ds is into bear hugs that can knock people off their feet too - and he breaks pencils/toys by holding too hard. Went to a 'meeting your childs sensory needs' day (NAS Help 2) and came to the conclusion that ds must be short on propriocepton! (The feedback mechanism within muscles and joints to tell the body where everything is). I think sensory differences (over/ under sensitive) are common features of ASDs. I am working my way through 'The out-of-sync child has fun' at present.
So Trace I think you are right!
