OMG dd2 just did something and shocked me (proud mummy momment)

Dd2 (possible ASD almost non verbal 2.8 years old), she started playing with dd1's magnetic letters at her tabble, i was sat on the sofa, dd2 came over and handed me letter A, she then took it off me and went back to the tabble, she returned with 5 letters in her hand, she handed me A followed by B then C then D and then E

She then layed them out on the floor in order, i read them out to her (A,B,C,D E), she then went back to the table and brought back F and then continued this all the way through to x.

Im in total shock as we have not taught her the alphabet because we assumed she would not be capable of learning letters due to her speach delay and the fact we were told she has the mental age of a 18month old baby. She must have seen it on the TV and remembered it (who said tv was bad for children?)

Is my child a Genius or what?

She might enjoy the v-tech alphabet desk - my non verbal 2.5 year old can answer all the questions on it and can press the correct letters when asked. We've started writing the names of things down for him when we play with the megasketcher because we think he's got it in him to learn to read and it'll be useful to use actual written/typed words alongside pictures for him, we think. This could be a great breakthrough for you.

Great idea ouryve, we have a megasketcher, she has played with a v-tech alphabet desk at my neighbours house, i might try and find her one for christmas.
She runs her fingers alongside words as if she is reading them, i wish she would show more interest in using the PC as that helped dd1 alot (she was typing by the time she was 3).

DS2 has similar skills - he stunned me at 2.7 by spelling out the name of our street from its street sign. I've been advised by nursery teacher to enjoy his intellect but not to encourage him to work on these strengths at the expense of more basic language. But I'm sure it's a virtuous circle - getting this proof of his intellect helped me to feel more enthused when helping him with the more mundane language acquisition.

This isn't her only recent breakthrough is it? Seem to recall lots of congratulations flowing Marnewards just now

I agree with WTWCAT, that is way past awesome!!!! your DD2 can not only recognise, but remember quite a long sequence too! i think its absolutely fantastic, its brilliant news!

marne i am thinking back to my degree here but in my very ill educated opinion i was wondering if that does sound a bit aspergers ( although i know not common in females) dis they used to call in enfant 'sauvage' ?

NotanOtter- there is a chance she may have aspergers as her sister has it, her sister is simalar and very bright for her age (was speeking french and spanish at the age of 3).

Dd2 has shown no interest in letters in the past but has always been interested in numbers and shapes. We think she may of memorissed the letters from watching 'Super Why' on NicJr.

In the past week she has spoke her first words, shown interest in letters and pointed at a map of the world saying 'look'. Its like christmas has come early
