Makes perfect sense just give yourself time to get used to it. Have to say you're lucky though - it took us nearer 2 1/2 years to get dx for ds1. Think you mean dyspraxia dont know much about it but I've heard of it. How old is ds? Will you tell her?

Webstermum · 26/11/2008 15:20

That should read will you tell him - sorry!

trace2 · 26/11/2008 15:23

yes i do mean that and i think i will tell him not yet but maybe start telling him little things which i had been doing as he knows hes diffrent

That's a good idea. I didnt tell ds but when he was 8 we were looking at a book & the boy had AS & he asked me what the book was called & when I told him he said is that what I have, is that why i'm different? This was so much better for me than sitting him down & telling him & in way i think it was a relief for him to know too. I know what you mean about feeling sad & that might last a while it did for me. I think it's the realisation he'll never be like other kids - but i tell him that's no bad thing, it's cool to be different.

I found the same Trace - even though I strongly suspected autism from a young age it was still a shock when the dx came and I felt very low for a while. Be gentle on yourself!
(2 months is very efficient - it took years for us). Ds also has ADHD, LD, and would get a Dx of DCD (Dyspraxia) if he didnt have the other difficulties too. ((Hugs))

Wow that was quick I felt the same - I knew he had AS and ADHD but its still a blow to have it confirmed by a dx. {{{hugs}}}Be kind to yourself

We get dd1's dx next wed, in a way i hope they say she has AS, i just want her to be able to get help at school and for us to be able to get on with it IYKWIM. We have been waiting 2.5 years. Now we have to go through it all again with dd2.
