i wasn't allowed to hold DS1, but i don't know what's happened on eastenders.
anything good?

macwoozy · 18/11/2008 08:00

It brought back memories for me too. I was allowed to hold my ds for no longer than a minute or two, just long enough to take a photo really. Then he was whipped off to SCBU. I couldn't go and see him till the next day because I was wired up to several machines. Definitely not how it should be.

anonandlikeit · 18/11/2008 09:31

not seen eastenders but it was some time, (i think almost 2 weeks) before i was able to hold ds2 & then felt so cruel as it was for my benefit not his. As soon as anyone touched or moved him his O2 level dropped & the monitors went mad.
I was the same as macwoozy not able to go up to SCBU until the next day. The only image i had of ds2 for teh 1st 24 hrs was a polaroid of him in the incubator in SCBU.

Same here 2shoes

DD1 was delivered onto my tummy and was totally grey, it must have been at least 10/15 mins before she cried she was then wisked off to NICU. I was given polaroid pics of her in her incubater but even these are horrific images as they were taken while they were still working on her the look on her face is awful, she was obviously in pain as they were putting the IVs in.

I did get to see her that night but only after i threatened to discharge myself if they didnt take me to her, even the memory of the is very unclear as i was so out of it, from the trauma of it all.

God im in bloody tears now!! obviously i have spoken about this before but its first time i have put any of it into words, think i had better leave it there.

I still have the little pic, she looked like a proper little fighter.

i didn't get a pic... and no holding for 8 days - even then she turned blue every time until she was suctioned...
dh was rofling at the doc popping back to brief roxy with a whole roomful of mitchells there though.
in our experience we had to wait for 4 hours before anyone came to tell us if she was alive or not, so another 8 episodes to wait...
i missed the start of it though - how early is she supposed to be?

I remember it aswell, only a polaroid until I could get out of bed the following day after Em cs. DH and my parents saw her before I did.

(Roxy was 31 weeks)

Mitchell81 · 18/11/2008 13:19

No thank god

I was looking in active convos for others who had been upset by last nights episode! I find it really hard to watch or talk about peoples birth experiences as the bit after my DD was born was so awful, not how it should have been at all.

Romy7 · 19/11/2008 09:01

am i the only one that thought it really strange that they they broadcast an 'if anyone has been affected by the whitney/tony storyline please call' but glaringly not an 'if anyone has been affected by the prem baby storyline' after the show? presumably prem babies don't feature on the bbc list of 'things that might cause emotional distress to viewers'. weird, eh?
i did like the authentic always ringing, never answered blardy phone in the background though, although the conspicuous absence of sats monitors alarming leads me to suggest they are saving that one up for another episode...

PeachyAndTheSucklingBas · 19/11/2008 12:47

strangly we had the reaction of maybe if they had taken ds1 to SCBU he'd have less problems now

(he lost 1lb in utero due to placental deterioration, born 1oz over guideline weight for scbu admission and decision taken not necessary- was home and around 4lbs within a week but was millenium so nobody would come out)
