Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Can you spare a few mins for the National Autistic Society please?

Hi, I'm a supporter of the NAS and just received this email, thought I'd post it to help them out. Thanks.

Private Members' Bill: Take Action

On 7 October, the Autism Bill (Draft) was launched in Parliament, in partnership with Angela Browning MP and with comprehensive support from the autism community. This Bill has been developed to challenge the exclusion from services that many people with autism face and we need your help to ensure that the Bill is taken forward as what is known as a Private Members' Bill.
On 3 December the annual Private Members' Bill ballot will be held in the House of Commons. MPs' names are picked out of the ballot at random and the first few that are selected will have the opportunity to introduce a bill into Parliament which has a chance of becoming law. Please take a moment to encourage your MP to enter the ballot and take the Autism Bill forward: your support is vital!

I have done it, and will get DP to too, and email the link to my entire address book.

Those statistics regarding autistic adults are so , I hope by the time DS gets to adulthood tere is more support out there.

SammyK · 10/11/2008 20:17

I have copied my email, in case other people would like to do the same and email it on to their freinds and family:

by clicking on this link and filling in a very short form.

here's why. . .
On 7 October 2008, the Autism Bill (Draft) was launched in Parliament, in partnership with Angela Browning MP and with comprehensive support from across the autism community. The draft Bill has the support of numerous organizations across the autism community, and has been developed by The National Autistic Society to challenge the exclusion from services experienced by too many people with autism. I am writing to urge you to enter the Private Members' Bill ballot and, if you are successful, to make the most of this unique opportunity and take the Autism Bill forward, to transform the lives of people with autism.

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them. People with autism routinely struggle to access the services they need and as a result of this, outcomes for people with autism are poor.

  • 63% of adults with autism say they do not have enough support to meet their needs.
  • Only 15% of adults are in full-time work.
  • Children with autism are three times more likely than their peers to develop mental health issues.

I am supporting the Autism Bill, and ask that you please click the link above too and do the same, to help our generation's children on the autistic spectrum experience positive outcomes as adults.

The Autism Bill aims to strengthen information about the numbers of people with autism and their needs, in order to improve local planning and commissioning of services. It aims to improve inter-agency working to secure effective transition for disabled young people from child to adult services. Finally, it aims to ensure access to appropriate support and services for people with autism in adult life.

Thank you for reading x
