Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

sorry if this is an intrusive question - do you receive dla for your child with aspergers?

I was hoping you would share this with me because I don't and have never applied, but have heard several peole on here mention it.
I have never applied because I don't think of ds as needing more financial help to live than any other child.
Howevr, it's occured to me that if he is entitled then perhaps I could use it to fund further rdi treatment or take him to the specialist optician I've read about.
Is it a means tested benefit?
On what basis does your child receive it?

You could always just put the money in his long term savings if you still don't feel that comfortable claiming it. It's highly possible he might develop an expensive hobby/obsession in later years!

Ours pays for DS to have lunchclub at pre-school a couple of days (good practise for school) and a few hours with a childminder friend once a week which gives me a little respite. Once he starts school I will put the money in all the kids child trust funds as his condition will affect his sibs too.

DLA can also open up other doors too...

Another tip for the form is to send photocopies of every report on him. If he has a formal diagnosis, it will save them having to contact anyone. Ours got turned around in 2weeks! Assume the assessors know NOTHING about the condition.
It is very hard work doing the form and goes against every fibre of your parenting being but it makes you confront your situation and accept your family life is very different to others, no matter how 'mild' your child's condition.
Good luck.

Have put this on my watched list, have an asd ds, in proces of getting a d, and my claim pack arrived the other day.

Did anyone on here fill it in before the dx? I am seeing paediatrician Tuesday (asked for a referral through GP), and we have had initial salt appointment.
