I am a first time mum to a 19 month old daughter with special needs. Although my nickname is manc1 (I am originally from manchester), I live in cardiff. I work 3 days per week and my husband works very long hours so find that my week consists of 3 days work 4 days baby with numerous appts, physio, portage,ot,speech therapy etc there seems to be no down time and the local scope group meet on a day that I work. I have tried a few different classes but with no other special needs child there and no offense to the other mums but they seem to put my child in a box as different and keep there distance from me. I have several friends via the nct but again my child is the only one with special needs. I have also discussed this with my special needs health visitor and she has invited me to coffee mornings which I have had to decline due to work. I just want contact with some like minded mums where I can relax and chew the cud as it were. Are you out there?

I was working in town that day saintvicksta and am only round the corner from the multistorey. I do see the neurologist at st davids a lovely south african fella and have seen him 3 or 4 times alex my dd has had eeg and ecg showing clear even though she has had 2 focal seizures (1 on xmas eve, which gave me a fabulous 1st xmas with bubba). She has already had an mri when born and is due another in feb, am at st davids tues for physio. She is desperately trying to crawl and is getting frustrated and I really think she'll do it by xmas, she is already standing but not unaided and just wants to do that ALL DAY. I love the name Gabriel and we considered it if we had a boy but we have an un usual surname so we had to tread carefully. By the way cake gets me anywhere these days!!!!

Hello Manc, 'tis me, saintvicsta, heavily disguised after a really busy, exhaustingly crap week. Gabe still sulking after his injections on Thursday - at least Dad's here to take him out for a stroll in this lovely weather.
Anyway, I have a whole week free of appointments next week, so, if you fancy a brew on Tuesday when you're at St Davids, let me know. I live quite close by, and the weather is still supposed to be nice then (according to the camping forecast, that is!)
Isn't the standing thing funny? Gabe has been doing that for a while and also doesn't want to do anything else. I think its coz they are more 'mobile' if you like, when standing. Gabe cannot roll over or sit up (tho he tries, bless him) and gets so frustrated coz he wants to move. He has more control over what he sees/does when he stands. He also likes to bounce and jump, especially on my tum, which, thankfully is still carrying some extra padding.

OMG. Just seen this. Spent morning in bed with hideous migraine so didn't come - did send text.
I'd of crawled there, migraine or not for vegan fairy cake!

Hello manc1,

Ds1 is 7 nearly, and has a severe right sided Hemiplegia. Is this what your dd has? If so, have your heard of 'Hemihelp', it is specific to the diagnosis of Hemiplegia and has been my lifeline. Any help I can offer you, please ask.

manc1 · 13/10/2008 19:58

Vicsta here,
Of course you can take a raincheck, I'd love to meet to but know exactly how it is with these bleedin' appointments. We have a bit of a break now, thank God. Had a dedicated pyjama day today, it was lovely. Hope all goes well. Let me know whenever and we'll see if we can synchronise diaries!
