No head growth...yes its me again

Gabes head has not grown for about 6 weeks now. His neurologist has confirmed it will almost certainly not grow properly BUT is very happy with his development and we are focusing on that.
So, my question is.....how small are your DCs heads? I've looked at the lovely offspring of one or two I can remember who have small heads (Riven and Madmouse) and they don't look very small to me at all, but then, neither does DSs anymore!

Can't comment as both my DCs heads are off the scale HUGE, but isn't your little man gorgeous!! Just took a sneaky peek at your profile. What a little charmer.
Glad to hear that he's doing well.

He is a little out of proportion as his weight and length are on the 75th centile and his head circ is on the 4th! He has got a loose scalp but now wrinkles yet. Neurologist says that he should look more in proportion when he's a little boy rather than the chubby (lovely) baby that he is.

Yes, as Fio says, the hair helps! Unfortunately my ds seems to have the slowest growing hair in the world and his head sits just under the bottom line on the chart. He looks perfectly in proportion at nearly 2 years old.

In the early days I was absolutely obsessive about head measuring (weekly, sometimes twice!), but as the months went on it really does become less of an issue. We had just over 3 months at one point with not even 1mm of growth, and I was really distraught - neuro less so.

DS is making progress, though very slowly, and that is all that matters.

No sorry MommyUpNorth, can't see your photo. Think you have to change your privacy settings. Would love to see though. I am getting less obsessed with the head circ now, as it is clear that he his making good progress. DSs hair is growing very fast and if its anything like mine it'll stick up at all angles!

dd's in in proportion but is on the 1%centile line. Officially she's 'microcephalic'. And at 4 not much hair.
(dd's length is on 25th and weight off the bottom)
cognitvely she appears to be just fine although as she can't speak of move its not that easy to tell.

You have thanks! He is lovely, but again, his head looks completely normal to me - not small at all. I am pleased your DS is making progress and hope mine will continue to do so. I don't care how slowly it goes, just that it keeps going forward.

Hello Vicsta, not many of us sn-ers in Wales so a special hello.

he is very young for them to make anything much more than guesses. I have 2 sisters- one has a child that they were worried had a small head; the other a large one. Both children has grown n proportion and at 4 years old are very bright able not-even-vaguely SN little chaps.

DS3 has a large head (classic in ASD (probable- no dx yet) cases. I think I can see that but you'd have to know, iyswim?

Hello peachy, just checked your profile and see you are in Caerleon (lucky lucky you - such a lovely place, me and DP been househunting there for years - can't afford anything now DS has arrived). You are right, Dr.s are very careful with their 'probably' and 'almost certainly' predictions tho DS has suffered almost complete death of the upper hind brain, so realistically, with such a big chunk missing, his head is unlikely to grow properly. It's funny that no-one (except his Drs etc) comments on his small head. Everyone just sees a cute chubby baby, and seeing how good other peoples LO look with their little heads as they get older, I think its something I will be more aware of than anyone else.

her head was last measured by comm paed in early September and the paed did say she has a small head but it does look in proportion to her body and paed is happy with her progress at ASN nursery.

Nathan is missing the rounding at the back of his head basically and therefore looks in proportion as the front and sides and height seems normal. paed also more concerned about development than size.

Madmouse, I'd snuck a look at your boy as I remember you mentioning his small head on an earlier thread. Gabes is generally small and, like Nathan is not rounded at all at the back. Your last thread struck a chord with me as we have no real prognosis other than wait and see, which is soooooo hard. Nathan looks wonderful, by the way. Hope he continues going from strength to strength, he seems to have done brilliantly.

Vicsta you'll have to CAT next tme you're in the village- I have a LO just 2 months older than yours (as well as the 3 monsters). oh we're renting BTW LOL, rents here are cheap- buying not.

Kids are amazing, yhey surprise us in so many ways. DS3 wasnt supposed tot alk, but if you look further down the SN topics there's a thread with a video, at the end ds3 is saying 'Hello Mummy.

Riven would love to visit Bristol, almost went to Uni there and haven't been there since the interview when I was 17. Except to IKEA before we had one in Cardiff, but that doesn't count. Didn't realise people were so close - only ever look at your DCs when I spy on a profile. Have a million hospital appointments at the moment, but as soon as we get a space, I will make dates with you both. Thanks! xx

Ah, now it all makes sense

I saw Johhny Depp once in Bristol. Walked past him and noticed this guy in a hat staring at dd and was gonna lamp him when I realised it was Mr Depp.
But he wasn't dressed as a pirate.

DD2's head was on the 80th centile at birth, and dropped to the 0.4th centile within a few months.

Her head is growing at its own pace now, and following its own curve, but did obviously decline dramatically in relative size in the first months.

She looks completely 'normal' (pics are a year old, but she was on about the 2nd centile then). Beautiful even! Her development at 20 months is completely age-appropriate except for some motor difficulties (she has mild CP on the left side).

I felt sick with worry, and I'd often feel dizzy, like passing out - this went on for months. Googling head size didn't help. Things are much less stressful now - hang on in there vicsta.

Went to clinic today. Still no head growth BUT I did see a little girl with a smaller head than Gabe (MUCH smaller) and she was BEAUTIFUL!
