Now I Really Am Mum to 3 with ASD!!!

....because DS3 has now officially been diagnosed with Aspergers.

Did the 3di assesment today...and did not expect at the end to be told he has Aspergers...expected to have to wait a few weeks for a report to be written!

So though i am still ClutterJunkie by nature...I am returning to my previous name of MUM23ASD...as that is what i am!!!

Blimey, three of us...er, congratulations/commiserations??

I'm still sat here a little subdued... but it is what i expected.

amber... well 5 really...as i have been certain for years that DH and I are both very AS!!!

I'm diagnosed OCD...but totally identify with AS!!!

...hmmmm and could i maintain eye contact with the SALT today??? Could I heck!!!!!!?

....now to tell the family...and get told that DS3's just like they were at age 9... and then resist the urge to not reply with 'well AS is thought to be hereditry!!! So may you too have AS!!!!"

Hi, i have 2 with ASD but we hav'nt got dx yet.

Dh has possible AS and sometimes i can relate to some traits (hate eye contact).

Well done for getting a dx.

congratulations! paed thought my eye contact was OK [hmmm] but that doesn't explain why I never have a scoobie about how good or not DS eye contact is.

how are you feeling about it? it is still a shock even if you were kind of expecting it.

TC... you are so right about not having a clue about some things...I was asked several things which really threw me! Eg: "Does DS shake or nod his head instead of verbally saying No or Yes?"
and i sat there...and i hmmmmed and ahhhhed and realsied not only did i not know whether DS did it...It dawned on me that I don't think ANYONE does it in our house!!!!

Also many questions she really had to 'tease the answers ' out of me as i really got stuck....whereas i suppose if a NT parent was answering they would know instantly if their DS did this or that....but for me....cos its all so familiar....and so accepted....and so normal....and i have developed so many strategies...that relying on my opinion is not too highly recommended!!!!

Thing is....I requested this assessment- so deep down am scared that people have just agreed with me...rather than if they had started the process...i'd be sure they thought it too. (the munchhausens strikes again!)

However...after telling the paed, my Mental health social workers and 2 SALTS this fear....they have all reminded me that school have been asked for their opinion....the 1st SALT observed and chatted to DS3...and the paed has met DS3 frequently in the past 7 years (as i often took him along...deliberately...to other DS's appointments.....so she could 'SEE' what he was like)

THis is the point at which i always wish there were a bloodtest to simply say Yes or NO!!!!

I agree MUM23 - a blood test would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier! no more ummming and ahhhing, it would be a doddle!

So, congrats! i think (nods positively), its always nice to know that your not 'making stuff up', 'wishing it on them' or just plain 'flaky'! to have it recognised and understood, and help (hopefully) at hand. well done you on getting this far!
