Okay I've taken to wearing shin pads on my arms....

Not to look like a storm trooper (although ds2 and ds3 were quite impressed) but because ds1 has put bruises on top of bruises this weekend and I swear I will cry if my arms get pinched anymore. The are various shades of black/blue and yellow already.

The shin pads (quite obviously) look ridiculous though. Does anyone know of anything that could act as body armour - the only other thing I can think of doing is wrapping my arms in crepe bandages which would look equally daft.

I'm hoping that after a few days of an unsatisfactory response (e.g. shin pads rather than skin) ds1 will get bored of trying to pinch my arms (although he can still get my hands so it might not work).

I've tried all the behavioural responses; they don't work with this.

I remeber we had a lot of trouble thinking of something to protect dd's knee's and in the end used kids skateboard knee pads. so there will be an answer.

Not necessarily, just something so that he can't get hold of the skin. The shin pads are quite good as they're hard so he can't get hold of anything to squeeze iyswim.

martial arts use body armour.
I think kickboxing has all sorts of differnet protectors IIRC.....

have had a quick google, but all the martial arts arm protectors I've seen bear rather a strong resemblance to shin pads anyway! would a tubigrip type arm bandage (you know the sort people wear when they'be got RSI) be any better?

ds had some that were like netting over padding.

What about a jacket with padded sleeves? Or wear two or three thin jumpers?

I may have to borrow your idea Jimjams, dd is a dreadful biter and I'm fed up with being bitten.

Will have a think on poss alternatives.

I'm afraid I don't have any ideas, but I'll be watching for what others come up with. Ds is a pincher and goes for my arms mainly. I almost always have long sleeves on, so he goes for my hands or neck! Can't wait for winter to get back in turtlenecks.

Are crepe bandages the same thing as the sports injury bandages? Ds has a lycra suit which is sort of slippy in texture, but thick like the knee bandages (struggling to think of the name here), but when he tries to pinch his own skin in the suit there is nothing to grip so he can't do it. I think it's the combination of the tightness of the suit with the slippery material...

I used to wear a thick fleece,and a slippery down duvet coat (only possible outside in the cold!) with gloves to protect my arms and hands. I found thick leather trousers worked for my legs - ds was younger when he went through the deliberate pinching stage so this may not help for slightly bigger hands. (Not quite over!) I used to put mittens on ds too - he hates them so the visual threat helped!
Ds was pinching to get my attention rather than to deliberatly hurt so it was more a case of ensuring the sensitive real me was unreachable! Oddly he rarely pinched bare skin. It sounds like you need the sort of protection a falconer uses!
I'm afraid when ignoring did not work I went for the opposite - but then ds was becoming more verbal and upset when told off and given time out(or physical restriction eg mittens)!

I wonder if a cheap or fake (ie stiff/ thick) leather bomber style jacket would work ie with baggy sleeves.

What about something like this Health and Safety products. The first few times are meant to protect against 'human biters' also arm protectors

Dh and friend suggest you buy neoprene arm warmers from cycling shops which may do the trick.

Apparently they are close fitting so better than shin pads (and can be hidden under clothing)

I could wear an entire wetsuit. Having taken a big punch to the neck earlier this evening (both sides at the same time) I might need some sort of neck bandage as well.

This is because he did not go out enough over the summer (it's got steadily worse before reaching these ridiculous proportions). I am seriously considering letting rip with SS (I wrote to them at the beginning of the summer asking them to confirm the hours of direct payments I would be receiving as they had told me they would be cutting them to replace with a service- which was then oversubscribed - by them- so we only received half the promised number of hours of their service - they haven't yet replied to my query about direct payments - so I couldn't employ lots of people as I had no idea whether I'd be able to pay them ).

if you are going down that route with SS, I wonder if it might be useful for you to take photographs of the bruising too as back up.
