How do I handle telling the mum this or do I say nothing at all?

DD is 5 and is in class with another girl of a similar age who happens to be Autistic. My DD and this girl are good friends.

DD has just told me that the girl told her today that her dad hasn't got long to live and she was crying.

I have no idea at all whether this is true, and I am not interested in trying to butt in and find out what is going on as it is not my business. What I am concerned about is this girl was upset today and I feel like I should tell her Mum and also whether it is true or not Mum might not want her telling people.

I would have to text as I think it would be the quickest way of passing this on. I could ring her mobile but I was thinking she woul dbe busy with tea and it would put her on the spot.

What do I do?

text is slightly impersonal and a call would sound more concerned just say sorry to bother you but mydd was upset by converstaion with your dd and is worried we wanted to make sure all was ok as yuour dd said and then go on just make it sound as both concerned etc and im sure she'll appreciate you taking the time to call

He is not ill in anyway and she was fine with me ringing.

Slight panic there when she rang me back. I thought she had seen this and was cross.

Should I get it deleted do you think? I would hate her to be cross with me.

Ah the perils of a literal mind. Probably the child concerned had overheard someone say as a joke, "I'm going to kill you" or "you're not long for this world if you keep doing that" or something like it, and being unable to hear the tone of voice or see the smile, thought they meant it. At least the mum will have a chance to reassure her?

It wasn't anything like that amber32002, but the main thing is every one is well and I haven't upset the mum. She has had a good talk with her daughter.
