Wonder how many people who get dla for their kids, get turned down when they re-apply?

Hi, does anyone know what the figures are for this?

Are you more likely to get it 2nd time/3rd time around, or is just as much of a gamble as when applying for the first time?

I was awarded high rate care for Ds first time of applying. second time round they refused altogether!
I appealed and got the high rate plus low rate mobility.

I honestly think it just depends on the person reading teh file on the day.
you apply and tehn sit croseed fingers hoping they "got some" the night before

hmmm

I have heard that if you photocopy the form and then when reapplying just put in the same answers (if the situ is still the same of course) and they turn you down, you can say that you got it first time based on that, so why not this time?

mamazon did they say why they turned you down? When you appealed, was it a proper appeal or did you just ask them to look at it again?

I think it is as much of a gamble every time you put in an application. I've been 'lucky' (if you can call it that ) in that DD has such a 'visible' and obvious disability that I've not had to deal with having to appeal. Just few months ago had it awarded to dd's 16th birthday which is a huge relief!
I think the system is an absolute nightmare, it really does seem that unless the disability is v v v obvious and straightforward for them then it all depends on the person whose desk the file lands on and their mood on the day!

thankfully it was just a "look again" type apeal. ....which actually makes me even more convinced that there is no real bench mark, its just who you get on the day.

bored, that is a relief for you!

mamazon, yes I agree. Apparently every application that ends on a desk is not entitled when it is opened...the form has to convince the reader so by the end, they say yes.

My DS who has Cerebral Palsy got middle rate on my first application then I found out that my mates daughter who has a hole in her heart (not life threatening - it gets smaller as her heart grows) got awarded full DLA ... I went balistic at them in a letter and pointed out that this woman works for DWP !!! anyway DS now gets full DLA until he is 19yrs old (he's 2yrs now)

to fit the criteria for full DLA You have to spend a minimum of 20 mins or several shorter visits during the night to qualify.... 20 mins ? I wish !

Oh dear, now I am worried! I have left it very late to redo ds2's renewal form (it runs out next week after 2 years). I left it this late as we had hoped to se some improvement in the area's that the original award was based on (complex multiple food allergies - not awarded for his heart at all). However, 2 1/2 years of strict avoidance and he is still just as allergic and now has other issues going on, like speech delay and he's not toilet trained at 4, but I refuse to put him back in nappies. We had to go to a tribunal for an award last time. I am currently 29 weeks pregnant with ds3 and am worried that they will say no and I will have to deal with the stress that comes with knowing I will have to go through a tribunal again, I don't think I could do it.

Sorry, just needed to vent!

Incidentally, does anyone know how long renewals are taking?

fickle as these things are I should think the fact you have been awarded before would have some bearing, plus if you add the new issues...

Try not too stress too much about it.

I have just had to ask from my ds's DLA son to be relooked at. His diagnosis of ADHD is new since we applied last time, they moved him down to middle rate care so am cross! I am now waiting to hear what they have to say!

OMG, it is just madness how they decide these things. The whole system needs revamping if you ask me. Mad on your behalf lottie. I hope they see sense.

i did not apply for mobility part when dd was 5 cos I was scared of being turned down all together when i reapplied. I think it is digusting the variation and inconsistencies in awarding. I put a application in for dd, not expecting anything as she was not as deserving as some ppl on here that are turned down.

DD needs have changed drastically, to the point where she would not get DLA. I rang and told them immediately and they said i had to keep it til it ran out in Nov this year
