wedge seat for dyspraxia

I want to get one of those wedge shaped seats for DS1 to see whether it'll help him to sit without fidgeting. I've seen two types - the 'Movin Sit' cushion which has little bumps over the surface and another type which is smooth.

Any ideas aout which would be best?

Have you got an OT? They will be able to get one for you. Are they designed to stop children fidgeting? (Don;t know much about dyspraxia, sorry). My son uses them, but he has CP, and they help him to sit in the correct postural position.

DS2 has an OT but not DS1 (he has no diagnosis). She'd probably answer my question though - have to wait til end of summer hols as she works school terms.

They are designed for fidgeting and posture as far as I know. Ds1 finds it very difficult to sit upright for any length of time - tends to slouch back against the chair - which means that he's an incredibly messy eater, amongst other things!

Have just done a MN search - it's more of a cushion than a seat. Does your Ds's one have bumps on it Nat1H?

Coppertop's Ds1 uses one i know - need to put out a call for her!

My ds uses one at school - bumpy I think. Seems to work. Never thought to use it at home, even though ds is very squirmy, cannot sit upright on a seat for any length of time (more than a few minutes usually!) and often falls off, to his shock, surprise and humiliation - poor chap! Also an incredibly messy eater.

Ds1 uses the one with the little bumps on it. It's made a really big difference. I hadn't realised how much until we went away on holiday without it and ds1 couldn't seem to stop slipping and sliding about on the chairs.

hmm...that has made me think about getting one. Trouble is ds is just seven so will it be noticeable (ie more noticable that squirming, wriggling, lying with his belly on the chair or falling on the floor from time to time )

Thanks for that, back to the OT, we are looking for aides for his severe Hypermobility Syndrome, this would really help, had never heard of it.
