Has anyone seen the advert for Huggies Natural fit nappies?

I may be being an over-sensitive mum but the latest ad has really offended me. It says 'Imagine if you had to move like your baby' and then shows adults crawling, bum-shuffling and kind of walking. But the adult walking doesn't look a baby, his gait looks very much like that of someone with cerebral palsy. I think the ad gives scope for piss-taking of adults and children with CP. Hadn't seen it, but just looked at your link, and I don't think you are being oversensitive. I wouldn't have necessarily though of CP, but the way the adults are walking/crawling does make it look like they have some sort of disability.

it was on nickjr several times this afternoon - during the dreaded 'go diego go' I believe. And funnily enough my dd who has CP also thought it was funny.

im really not after starting a debate, and i dont want to be flamed for my opinion, but in your OP you ask "what do you think"?

actually i think it is possible that because of your experience, there is just a very small possibility that (beating around the bush and really trying not to offend) you are being just a very small amount...a little bit over sensitive. They really do just look like they are walking/moving like babies to me.

Tho TBQH i really dont get the point of the advert - why would adults move like babies? why not show babies moving? the items that are being advertised are for babies... why not show them? That said there are plenty of adverts that dont make one jot of sense, one of the latest KFC adverts doesnt even have its name on until the very last second, the car thats made out of a cake, the dancing car, etc. However I do like the water one (cant remember the brand, great advertising eh???) the one with 'Brains' from thunderbirds, nice play on words and hes a puppet that doesnt move well to start with.

I think my point is that its just an ad, admitedly a crap one that doesnt make sense, but i really dont find it offensive.

I just feel that particularly the guy at the end does look like someone who is disabled - there are people out there who in their daily life walk 'like a baby', in fact my dd who has spastic diplegic cerebral palsy will in all likelihood walk in a very affected and obvious way as she grows up. I think the ad gives the opportunity for narrow minded prats to take the piss out of disabled children and adults. I guess those same people might have done so anyway but the ad doesn't help - imo. (no offence taken misscutandstick, just I guess things feel differently when it's your own lovely little 2 year old you feel is being portrayed - maybe I'm not yet comfortable with the reality of how my own dd will walk as an adult? it all takes time I suppose. )just thinking aloud.

to add another thought. what about adults who have to wear nappies. I am sure the 19 yr old I know, must just love seeing an advert taking the piss.
seems a very odd marketing ploy and as Hangingbellyofbabylon says unless you have a child in this situation I doubt it would offend(even ds just thought it was funny) but it is hardly a step forward for inclusion.

But even without having a child in this position I was still creeped out by adults crawling etc - partly I guess because of elderly relatives who only managed the stairs in their latter years by crawling up them .

yes, the issues of adults and older children in nappies also went through my mind - we go to a conductive ed centre and there are lots of school age children in nappies, crawlingI think the ad was misguided and inappropriate and as 2shoes says exactly help with inclusion.

It is an odd advert and I can see your point. If you watch it with no sound, all you see is a man/men crawling around and walking in an unusual way - the link to nappies is pretty tenuous.

I'm not sure a casual viewer (with no SN experience) would necessarily make the connection with CP though? I know as parents of SN kids, we become very sensitised to certain aspects of life, for example, when people say things like, 'are you mental?', it does grate now, whereas before I had ds, it wouldn't have registered IYSWIM.

Didn't occur to me any to make any connection with physical disabilities but then I don't think I know many IRL. I don't imagine the kind of people who would take this mick out of disabled people actually know any so I doubt the ad would ring that bell for them either.

my ds would probably laugh and not realise - which would then lead to him laughing at people with physical disabilities in the street which would then lead to my embarrassed attempt at an explanation if I even get to explain before being lynched by bystanders. We will be avoiding nickjr for a bit I think.
