dd is now one,she as problems from birth as some of you know, with her posturing ,blanks funny turns! could go on for ever, well this week our nuero as said more or less he carnt treat her until her reflux is sorted as they dont know how much is down to reflux?

so they have offered us a operation for the reflux to close and twist her gullit but its a long operation and as many risks i dont want her having more problems to deal with on top of every thing else. me and dh have talked in great detail and just dont want to put her through it but as i said it looks like they wont treat her other problems until shes done! do we ask for a second oppion?

Is it a fundoplication op?

don't know much about reflux/operations etc, but I think you definitely should ask for a 2nd opinion, you need more information to decide whether there is a point to having the op for reflux, as it just isn't good enough really that you feel forced into her having the op just to continue the neuro follow up.

have you tried special kids in the uk web site. it is not as "chatty" as here but there might well be someone on there who has a child who has been through this.

special kids is kind of the reverse balance to here - on here it is mostly parents to kids with ASD and/or communication problems, while special kids is near all parents to kids with (hope I am putting this OK!) physical health problems.

Hi trace 2
I know several kids who have had a fundoplication. For some of them it has massively improved the quality of their lives - for example one little one who was in hospital for around 9 out of 12 months last year has had no admissions this year so far. However, there are others for who it has not really worked - even with the fundo they still have reflux and vomiting, and others who have had problems because it has been done too tightly. Have heard that the older a child is when they have the fundo done the more reliable it is.
Not sure if this helps you or not. It really is such a big decision to make and geting a 2nd opinion and as much info as poss is the right way to go.

thank you once again my dd is 1 years old shes not sick never as been, but she stops breathing as they carnt find any other reason for this they putting it down to reflux and shes stuck in a bababa shape for about 8 hours each time (stiff) and as they never found anyone like this they again are putting it down to reflux! i think i will be asking for a second oppion

lots of fundo kids on special kids... as well as those who have turned down the op i think, so def a good place to get some opinions as tc said.
