Books about children who have to be in hospital?

I am looking for a book or two for DD who has to have regular monitering at hospital and also is there more than is usual when she is ill due to her condition. She will also have to have an operation at some point this year or next year. She is only 21 m and has very little speech so far but if it was aimed at children a bit older it's ok as she will always have to take medicines and have hospitals as part of her life. I have looked and could only find books where children are ill, have their treatment or medicine and then are better and it would be good if there was something about having to take medicines all the time or similar. I'm open to ideas really. Anyone come across anything good? Or perhaps about how everyone is different that kind of thing?

might be worth a look. maybe e-mail them first to check its appropriate for your situation.
Have you asked at your local childrens library- Librarians should have a good idea about what their stock includes and can help you get the riht book if it not on the shelf but is at another branch. phone up if its hard to get to a library in person.

We are meeting next friday with our surgeon, DD had a scan yesterday and we'll be setting the date next friday so its on my mind at the moment too. DD also seems to have fairly good understanding and enjoys books. I'm sure there must be something out there for them I'll report back...

Still not found anything, the publications on that site are for three plus but I may send for them for DD's op. Not come across any books though so any more ideas very welcome.

you didn;t say what your dd has , couple of books from amazon about sickle cell and epilepsy for kids. SC involves a fair amount of meds, pain, check ups etc.
even if it not the condition you are dealing with there may be similarities with another condition that would widern your serch.
Good luck.

Thanks UniS I'll take a look. She has a relatively rare condition and there is a support group so I know there are no books for her age group directly about it but it may well be worth looking to see if other ones have anything that DD could relate to as I hadn't thought of that.
