Hello, my 9 year old son who has Autism,Global development delay,OCD and Sensory processing disorder.

He has trouble with clothing. He will keep his school uniform on when at school. Soon as he is home he strips off.
I brought him the next size up special needs romper because it being baggy but won't wear it. He had a massive meltdown when trying to put it on.
Any ideas on how to help?

Would a baggy pair of shorts be better than a romper?

Has DS had a sensory OT assessment?

How are his wider anxiety levels?

The school has contacted OT about his sensory needs. He is Pre verbal so doesn't express him self well. He gets angry and lashes out alot.

Does DS have an EHCP? If so, it sounds like you need an early review. Sensory OT should be in there.

He does have an EHCP. His had an early renewal for change in school. Because his in mainstream school with a special needs classroom. They struggling with him. OT been added but he hasn't been seen. Contacted CAMHS today because been with them 2 years and only had an assessment appointment.

When was the early review? Is the LA sticking to the timescales? You might find the issues with clothing outside of school lessens when DS is in a setting that meets his needs and he more regulated.

If OT is in F of the EHCP but isn’t being provided, chase the LA. The provision isn’t optional. If the wording is detailed, specified and quantified in F, it can be enforced.

It doesn’t cover more general CAMHS input, but mental health provision such as therapies can also be in F rather than reliant on the normal CAMHS offer.

They haven't long done his renewal so haven't seen his final renewal yet to check. The main reason they did the renewal early was to move him to a special school. I know his senco said she was referring him to OT and contacting CAMHS themselves. She said she was gonna see how far he is on EHCP panel for special school

Keep an eye on the timescales. Within 2 weeks of the meeting, the school should circulate the report. With 4 weeks of the meeting, the LA must inform you if they are going to amend, and if they are, send the amendment notice at the same time. Then within a further 8 weeks, the LA must finalise if they are amending.

Thank you so much, it's coming up to the 4 week mark
