After waiting 6 months for portage.........

dd3 will only get 3 more visits. I just feel totally and . Because dd3 gets input from the hearing impairment service, portage won't work with her despite saying she needs it. The 3 visits won't be to do any work with her, just to do their checklist and highlight the areas that need working on. I know the service is understaffed and has been for some time but all the professionals that see dd3 say she needs the input now so she isn't too far behind when she starts school, she is already noticeably behind others her age. I can't complain because I have been told that there are children with pmld that are not getting help that will miss out if I do. Six months of waiting just to be told they won't do anything.

I have no experience of portage. But I think it's shocking that they are emotionally blackmailing you into not complaining. If parents don't complain, it gives the powers that be the perfect excuse to pretend the service is adequate. Am very on your behalf, and hope there are some other avenues for helping you work with your DD3.

Thanks tc. FioFio we get a sensory room session with dd3's teacher of the deaf and most weeks a home visit from her too, we also go to a physio group once a week. The teacher of the deaf is great, but her remit is to deal with dd3's hearing problems not the blanket cover that portage do, all the stuff she does is play but not play therapy as such, most of the games are to encourage listening skills, speech and language. I just feel she needs someone that considers all areas of her development not just her hearing and am very cross that they didn't tell me 6 months ago they wouldn't do anything.
