Hysterical laughter (linked to needing to poo)

I know that the above title sounds bizarre but I’m at the end of my tether with this behaviour of DS (10) and trying to work out if it’s a physical problem (gut/ brain link) or a psychological one?

He has always veered on the hyperactive side, sometimes worse than others, but for the last couple of months he is becoming absolutely hysterical (laughing) before, during and after going to the toilet (for a poo). He can be constipated but in all honesty, when he isn’t going for days his behaviour is calmer than when he is! We have just returned from an abroad holiday where he glugged a fair amount of salt/ sea water resulting in more toilet trips… and worse behaviour. I’m talking about falling off the toilet because he’s laughing so much and then for an hour or so after falling around laughing in an uncontrollable state. He’s totally with it so I’m not concerned about gelastic seizures but it’s definitely linked to needing to/ going for/ post poo.

It can start hours before as he will hold off going and he can’t sit down/ concentrate/ do anything during that time.

Google talks about gut issues; ammonia issues etc but I’m at a loss. Does he need some kind of stool test? Or will the GP think I’m insane?! We have an adhd appointment imminently to discuss possibly (re) starting meds but I’m not wholly sure that’s the right angle??

Anyone?!

Maybe a sensory issue?

@carriebradshawwithlessshoes I have read (I think) about excessive laughter being linked to gut issues but I don't know that there's any scientifically accepted proof. We did have some excessive laughter with my son but much much less than you've describe. It does seem to have reduced in the past year, but I can't say what exactly helped reduce it, unfortunately

Thank you both… @OnceAndDone was it at any particular time or just random did you note?

It seemed random. He'd space out a little like he was remembering something and would then laugh. I do remember him doing it once on the toilet but can't say I noticed the two were linked.
