Experiences of children starting specialist school?

Hi everyone.

After a super long battle with the LA our son (6 years old) is finally in the private specialist school we always dreamed of him going to.

He started Tuesday and has had an up and day week so far but has been SO used to the reduced hours at his previous school and now he’s full time. He also had the same teacher there for 2 years who knew him very, very well.

I’m wondering what others’ experiences were when their child went from mainstream to specialist?

Following as my child is due to start special school next week

Following as we’ve just started SEND school (year 7).

My child started a specialist setting a year ago, the first few weeks was a reduced timetable experiencing different parts of the day, lots of personalised social stories and visual aids of what the day will look like. Our son took a toy from home into school to help with the transition and we had lots of support it was fine. Happy to answer any specific questions if I can x
