Ds aged 7 asd. Very limited communication and understanding. I desperately want to travel abroad as all previously holidays and trips have been uk. Thinking of short flight somewhere from Birmingham airport. Less than 2 hours but shorter the better either coast or city break, not dublin though. Can anywhere recommend anywhere? Ideally somewhere with good public transport links from airport. City break find so long as accessible and plenty to do for him. Thanks

Amsterdam is a short flight away and the airport is easy to access using transport, same with Vienna. You can fly to Girona from Birmingham – it's a lovely little city that's close to the coast. If you want to stay right on the coast, Barcelona or Jerez are great too. I have heard Sardinia is amazing too, but that flight is more like 2.5 hours. Enjoy your trip!

Portugal would be a good option for the coast. I'm not sure about travelling from the airport if you fly to Faro (we did a taxi transfer which was ideal for us), the metro is easily accessible from Lisbon in under 30 mins, if you're looking for a city vibe.
Other options would be Madrid, Nice or Barcelona.
