Hi all. Hoping for some advice for people who have applied as parents. 8 yr old adopted boy, is in year 3. Was exposed to multiple substances in the womb. Possible FASD. Came to us aged 2. Lots of problems with him running out of class, memory issues, not engaging/ listening, impulsivity, aggression towards me, breaks things when angry, stealing / lying, conflict with other kids. Has asthma, eczema and allergies but otherwise well. Big problems in school and at home. But school said he didn't meet the threshold for.them applying despite me having to hear about how difficult his behaviour is regularly. He Is around 1.5 years behind academically.
Can also be charming, creative, sporty and sociable and has lots of friends (but thats not the focus of the application obviously). We adore him but he is such hard work on a daily basis and I worry so.much about him being excluded from school and his teen years.
He has had an NHS adhd assessment pending for over a year and we are now going private for the assessment so may be able to include that if ready in time (right to choose was complicated in our area and i want him to be referred onto nhs for treatment once diagnosis made). Has had an expensive psychological assessment done through adoption support fund, which concluded trauma must be a big thing (no sh**) and also possible low IQ.
Have been accepted for an assessment for the EHCP. Now need to fill out the parent bit. For anyone who has been through this. How much did you write about their needs? What evidence did you include? How many of you were successful? Just feel so much pressure to make sure i even write enough. Applied for DLA and got medium rate. Thanks in advance.
