Is there any truth in this about carers being forced into work?

My MIL is always spouting rubbish but this time she said something worrying.

For context we have 5 dc, all disabled and 4 get PIP/DLA. I am SAHM/carer to dc5 and DH is self employed but not gainfully and carer to dc4.

I know about the new 4 point rules with PIP and I expect this will affect dc1 when it comes into place.

MIL has been saying that they are discussing carers in parliament and soon there will be "no excuses" for carers and we will all have to be employed in "proper jobs". Dc5, who I officially care for has autism and emotional development delay. He gets high rate care and low rate mobility dla. He doesn't sleep very well and neither does dc3 so I get 6 hours of broken sleep a night. Caring for my dc is an absolute privilege but I really can't do a paid job as well. My MIL says I could work in McDonalds or with computers but my brain is so fogged up with lack of sleep that I don't think I could do either of those things. The dc have loads of appointments too and one of them had an operation last week as well, his 2nd in a year and 24th overall.

I'm worried that what she says is true and that dh and I will be forced to get "proper jobs".

MIL claims the dc are "not that bad" although she won't ever look after my dc regularly or dc5 at all because they are "difficult". They look after DN's who are both NT in the holidays and after school regularly. Which is fine, they are my dc and I am happy to look after them, it just seems double standards when they won't help but think we should be able to do caring and work full time as well.

You should ignore MIL.

Thank you. I normally do ignore her but occasionally I have a panic that something she said might actually be true this time. Ds1 just rolls his eyes and says Nan's talking rubbish again.

Your MIL is a dick. What a horrible woman. I have not heard anything, but I would imagine if you are on high rate care it would be difficult for the government to justify making you work, since you are expected to care during the night.

Wow, imagine being related to someone this horrible. I’m so sorry @elliejjtiny
