Im a nursery nurse with no experience of school nurserys and I know they work slightly diffrently.

My dd is 4 in a school nursery and has a speech problem but no language delay shes just very hard to understand if you dont know her. She is (finally!) reciving speech therapy.

So I went to see the SENCO and said I want to talk about her problem and what the school were doing and the SENCO said "she has a speech problem?" then when I said yes she said "OH yes we refered her didnt we?" no they didnt Ive been pushing since she was 2.

I said I want to look at her development file and any observations you have done on her.

She said we dont do development files (?!) when I said last time I asked mrsx said they werent up to date, so she said well you can then Ill ask mrsx(?!!) but she hasnt been here long there will be nothing in it (shes been there since Sept!)

Then I asked about the observations and she said they dont do observations. I said how do you plan then? I would expect you to do observations especially on a child with a problem. She then sighed and said Ill see mrs X about that as well then!

Then I said Im not happy about the communication problem between me and the school and she replied I dont think there is one.

They put her in a language group without so much as mentioning it to me, they didnt even mention her speech problem untill I brought it up, and they wont tell what they are doing to help her! even if I do approach them they show no intrest and push me out the door in two minites!

Am I being unreasonable and expecting too much? and if not what should I do now?

She sounds clueless tbh! I dont know much about the remit of a SENCO, but, in any case this woman sounds terribly vague and unhelpful so YANBU at all!
