Hi! I have a 7 year old son, who has complex needs, we are with Cahms, a peadiatrian, continence nurses, he has an IPP plan at school, an IEP plan, and an EHCP plan, had our first cahms assessment they saw signs of autism and adhd and we have a qb test coming soon, so I am struggling, my sons dad left 2 years ago and doesn't send any support for neither of his two sons, I am a single mother in university, have my own house, car, dogs I pay for all my bills on my own, I was told by someone I could get DLA for my son since his with cams and this would help so much as he has complex needs for example he's with a continence nurse for stool withholding, peadiatrian as he is a beige eater and has arid, with cahms all letters I sent, the continence letter, the paediatrician letter, the cahms appoints etc BUT I didnt tick the box that said he has an EHCP plan at school I ticked the IPP plan, and now I'm worried I won't be awarded, I have his EHCP in my kitchen that I want to send to the DLA and tell them I accidentally forgot to tick the box that said EHCP plan if I ring tomorrow and tell them he has that plan at school and I have proof here can they add it on for me. I hope were awarded I'm struggling so much to afford all his special drinks like pedicure, special pull ups, special foods, fuel for all his appointments etc but I feel like because I didn't tick echp plan we won't get it I'm so upset now as I need it, it will be our lifeline..

also can I apply through UC for him even now as he isn't awarded DLA yet? Thanks all x

As far as I know you can send it in tomorrow. Give them a call in the morning.

You can send additional evidence. Although even if DS didn’t have an EHCP, that wouldn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t eligible for DLA. EHCPs aren’t a pre-requisite.

You won’t be able get the disabled child/severely disabled child element as part of a UC claim without getting DLA unless DS is blind/severely sight impaired.

If DS requires oral nutritional supplements such as PaediaSure, they should be prescribed. Is DS under a dietician?

If DS requires incontinence products, they can also be provided. Speak to the continence service is DS is already under them.

If you are on a low income, look at the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme.
