someone who is switched on re: ASD, with experience in working with young children with ASD, knowledgeable about different therapies and new research, who doesn't think ABA/VB is devil's work, who has capacity to take on new clients... s/he must exist somewhere!

it's a long shot but we are desperate to find someone, DS1's NHS SALT is prob doing more harm than good.

if you want to contact me off list

wish I knew where to find one...

I'm in Kent, and finding someone with all of the above (esp capacity to take on new clients) is proving impossible.

whereabouts in the SE are you able to travel to?

This is the ALSTIP site which has a search by postcode on the front page

thanks, soapbax.

Have already been through that site - all the viable SALTs distance wise are full, or on maternity leave!

The closest one we found was 40 miles away, and wanted (reasonably) to charge travelling time (as the road network works against us and would have taken her close to 2 hours to get ot us) so the cost became prohibitive

Thanks Soapbox - I have just found 2 that deal with autism within 5 miles ! We start with an NHS one next week but it's nice to know that there is another option if it doesn't work out. I am a bit nervous about PECS as although his speech is limited he is used to asking verbally for his needs and he can say mini sentences.

I've also called every one within reasonable distance listed on help with talking site - all full.

We have just started private SALT with DD again but we use Symbol (based in Kent) who specialise in SALT issues with Down Syndrome.

I remeber doing a postcode search a few years ago and there being a list of varuios therapists, locations and any specialities- probably the one soapbox has listed.

Good luck with your search!
