School/LEA want ds reassessed

At ds,s intial planning meeting in feb the headteacher suggested that the ed psych go in and do a thorough asessment of ds,s cognitive ability, because when he had the asessment for his statement he was too anxious to do the tests.

we told them that 3 years ago CAMHS managed to do a complete Wischler (think thats the name) over a number of weeks with him and his IQ is 136.

but headteacher said he,d like to see an up to date asessment done and the LEA have agreed.

now, not being used to our LEA ever agreeing to something straightoff, it has left me feeling a little uneasy.

surely ds,s IQ wont have changed in 3 years and why are the LEA agreeing to do something straight off thats going to cost them money?

mmm - after messing you around so much before I can see why you are suspicious.

Do you trust the HT? Is this so that school can meet ds needs and make use of his strengths? (The Wieschler scale thingy shows strengths and needs if I remember correctly - so shows more than just the IQ.) Is this HT particularly skilled at getting his requests answered perhaps? If you trust the HT perhaps you could ask him why the LEA have agreed without a fight?

I am so cynical regarding this system and what I have seen, you should consider schools and the LEA as being on the same side. Which is not always your side, unfortunately. Would this assessment be before your tribunal hearing? If so, they are sniffing around for stuff to use, so I wouldn't do it...

no its not ds that we are going to tribunal for, thats dd!

the head of this school, is i think good at getting his requests done, its an independent school so not part of the lea.

i do trust the HT, and i think he wants to know what ds strengths are, they have just been on the phone and told me that ds is likely to get a level 5 in his SATS.
