So yesterday was bad, think we established that on my other thread! Meeting was at 2pm today and i think....think....we may be getting somewhere possibly although i cant be over joyed or positive till it happens.

Meeting went like this....
CAMHS have agreed to do the ADOS test on DS or possibly the 3DI?????
Ds will stay at the PRU although they will now get some funding to ensure DS has a FULL time support worker just for him.
Case worker is looking for schools and has agreed to look no further than 30 minutes or approxiamtely 20 mile radius of home.
LEA have agreed to fund EVERYTHING Ds needs to set him up in a mainstream school including specially trained LSA and access to outside organisations to help with social development etc as well.
It has been agreed that we will start getting support at home and CAMHS and Ed Psych are getting this sorted with autism outreach etc as it has been agreed that even though DS has no formal DX of ASD YET that his needs are the same as a child with ASD.

Like i say it all sounds fab on paper but i cant feel positive till it happens. There was quite alot of talk about looking after my own mental health which made me laugh but CAMHS feel we will be eligable for some sort of social services help with respite at weekends to enable us to regroup as a family.

Thankgoodness!! Well done Bonkerz!
(Why do they do that - give you bad news then modify it a day or so later - happened to us too!)
I'll still keep my fingers crossed for you!

bonkerz · 30/04/2008 16:14

Well apparently yesterday the panel had said they would issue extra funding on top of what schools get BUT the case worker realised after reading the letter from CAMHS and seeing the state i was in that it wasnt going to make a difference and actually sought the Specialist central funding thing and said they had got back to her today.....am very sceptical about this story as she kept saying 'trust me im on your side' and that makes me wary!

Sorry just repolied to you your other thread.

Well done. Sounds good. Fingers crossed. At least he will be in a school until September and with his own support worker that will make things better for him.

Large glass of wine?

drowninginlaundry · 30/04/2008 16:31

well done for kicking some serious LEA arse

mymatemax · 30/04/2008 16:33

Fingers crossed it all comes together for you.
ds2 had the 3di recently, lots of questions but painless!

bonkerz · 30/04/2008 16:48

Cheers guys, Head from his old MS just rang and said she had neevr known a child get the special enhanced funding package and felt that not only had we changed life for DS but that now the LEA would have to help others in the same way, she also said that once everything was in place for DS that he needs it would benefit other children like DS too.

server.crumpled-dog.com/3di/index.html

This has a good summary of the 3Di which is basically a computerised questionnaire/ interview.

I still think they'd be more likely to give (and the LEA to accept) the dx with an ADOS.

I know someone who was offered the 3Di, her child was dx'd on the basis of it, but the LEA kept saying she could have answered the questions on the basis that she knew what they wanted to hear to get the ASD dx. Knowing what your LEA are capable of, I think that the ADOS is much harder to argue with, as it is based on how the child presents, not what the parent says about them. Also, they've already got a mountain of paperwork from you which says what you will say in the 3Di.

The ADOS is a standardised test of B's behaviour and social skills. I think it carries much more weight than the 3Di, which will be helpful at Tribunal.

Sorry, missed your post!

IT'S GOOD IT'S GOOD IT'S GOOD IT'S GOOOOOD!

I really think that you've got some good progress today. They are starting to see that they have to do something. Have they given you timescales for the ADOS/ 3Di/ Social Services referral?

FANTASTIC NEWS
well done you..
let us know when you get it in writing..
somehow common sense had to prevail in the end

fannysparkle · 30/04/2008 19:19

Just about caught up as i didn't come online yesterday... so pleased for you, well done!!

mymatemax · 30/04/2008 19:34

Bonkerz, as givemesleep says the 3Di is basically a questionnaire the psych will ask you the questions & you indicate the most appropriate response.
There is also a question sheet for the school. Again a multiple choice type thing.

The questions cover all areas of development & are detailed & seem to break down each area so they will ask the same question in different ways iykwim.
The questions also take in to account the childs developmental history. So if a childs language was delayed or disordered but now more appropriate it will capture the history.

Givemesleep is right, it does seem possible to influence the outcome by the answers you give but tbh if answered honestly it should give an accurate score anyway.

DS2 for example scored very highly for ASD on the repetitive behavour/obsessions & sensory problems & anxiety type score.
But less highly for language as his communication but the combined scores accross all areas were able to give a dx.

In ds2's case it was used in conjunction with multi disciplinary assessment reports & reports from his paed.

TBH I think it can only support your dx

daisy5678 · 30/04/2008 19:58

I wasn't suggesting though that Bonkerz would try to influnce it, just that her weaselly LEA might suggest that she had!

jenk1 · 30/04/2008 19:58

oh just replied to your other thread!

BRILL NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well done you for not backing down against CAMHS, you have shown them you are a force to be reckoned with.

oh this all brings back memories.

Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

daisy5678 · 30/04/2008 19:59

And I wasn't suggesting that you suggested that either, MMM! !

I just realised that my previous previous post could be taken to imply that I thought Bonkerz might try to influence it...

oh you all know what I mean! (I hope!)

mymatemax · 30/04/2008 20:28

NO, I know, I didn't think for one minute that you were suggesting we would try to influence it.
I agree, I would imagine you could influence the outcome & we all know the bloody nightmare that is waiting lists & lengthy dx routes I'm sure some people must get desperate.
I was just trying to say that the questions did seem to cover all areas of the spectrum & as its the parents account rather than observations (which can be in a very false environment)the results should be accurate anyway.

Oh you know what i mean

bonkerz · 30/04/2008 20:29

givemesleep STOP digging yourself a hole! At no point did anyone think you meant any different!

Well i was only saying to dustystar earlier that MN is better than google cos neither of us could find simple explanation for the 3DI test and here you are!! Mind you me and dusty had been drinking wine under alot of stress!!!

I will definately push for the ADOS test. the doc was saying they did the ADOS test via a learning disabilities group who came in to do it and the 3DI test was the one used in CAMHS. Nothing lost i suppose if i can get him to do both!!! In front of everyone else at the meeting he promised it would be weeks rather than months to get this done!
