Ds aged 6 is autistic and in receipt of dla. Worked my current role for over 15 years and struggling as he gets older. I get allocated leave and the odd weekend every few months is becoming difficult. Currently trying to get respite and have been applying for new jobs for over a year without any luck. I'm now wondering whether I can use parental leave every few months for the odd days I struggle. I'm reading that disabled children parents can take in blocks of days
Anyone done this or had pushback?! Be interested to hear. Thanks

Because DS is disabled, you can request parental leave in single days rather than just full weeks. You can take up to 4 weeks each year unless your employer agrees you can take more. However, your employer may not agree to the specific days you want though. They can postpone unpaid parental leave.

DH took two weeks unpaid parental leave this year. He is the only person at his work who does his job so he did end up having to do a couple of things from home but not too bad. I thought about parental leave but ended up doing a flexible working request and got approval to temporarily reduce my hours instead.
